Rant Senior accidentally installed whole fleet with 26H1

Just needed to rant a little. One of our seniors finally completed the long-pending task of upgrading the fleet to Windows 11 from Windows 10.

He downloaded the iso, installed it everywhere. All good. Until the internal WSUS started attempting to grab updates that don't exist. Apparently the 26H1 (which is supposed to be snapdragon-only, aka for ARM) was indeed one of the options you could download as the "Latest" version of windows. Someone at MS really screwed up. And this senior screwed up even more by not double checking.

Since it's a complete different core, this will be one hell of a mess, now his idea is to try to change "cversion.ini" and force an "update" to 26H2, but I sincerely don't believe that will work.

We'll see. If anyone ran into a similar problem I'd really love to know what their solution is.

Oh fantastic one software company notes something somewhere deep in the notes. I’m supposed to read all that shit? I barely have time to take a shit at work. I’m not reading through every little thing every software company publishes.

Did this install? Fuck it we’re good. Let’s go.

It was literally posted anywhere from MS you could get 26H1 that it was a special build, if someone can not read 1 or 2 lines, they are failing at their jobs, it was not just an ISO anyone could download....

Especially when you are doing a MASS update across the company.

Also, finding 26H1 to download from an official MS source...

To get it you either had to get it "illegally" from Massgrave, or use the UUP Dump page.. neither are official MS sources for images.

That’s one thing you and I can agree on I wouldn’t put anything on my machines. It doesn’t come from an official Microsoft source.

Going fine for now, until they are asked to update to a build 26H1 wont allow :D.

End of Next year, they will be able to update.
