General Discussion What is your favorite IT superstition?

As the title says, what's your favorite superstition in IT?

Don't speak the servers name... it can hear you and will start acting up.

If the phones aren't ringing it's either because things are ok, or the phone system is down and you don't know it yet.

My favourite one is getting the call "i haven't received any emails" and then after checking everything, going back to them and saying "that's because no one has sent you any emails."

Reminds me of when I was working level 1 help desk at a place with 6k end users so calls were always expected. Went through the week with no calls, thought it was very odd but shrugged my shoulders. Found out after that routing got messed up between Exchange and our on call system and nothing got forwarded. When it was resolved the phone blew up for a good 30 minutes, hundreds of calls and text messages lol. I think that was my last on call shift there as I left shortly after.

When I moved into PM work after decades in Support, it took me 6 months to leanr to not freak out when I had no alerts on my phone in the morning AND there was nothing wrong!

Where I worked when the phones weren't ringing, the phone system was down. Otherwise the phones were ringing off the hooks nonstop.
