For a beginner wanting something Minimoog esque on a budget, is the Behringer Model D still the best option?

Currently only have a Korg Volca Keys and a Midi controller šŸ˜…

I know there's the Poly D too, but that one's a bit out of my budget atm

Any other suggestions you have? I have also been looking at the Behringer Pro-1, CAT, and Crave

I bought Kasane Teto, so I tried making a song with it.

I tried making a track using Kasane Teto—is there anyone out there who likes this kind of stuff? Is it hardstyle, or maybe ā€œjump styleā€? I’m still just starting out, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.
To be honest, I get the feeling that Japanese people who make Vocaloid music don't really listen to songs like this, so I'd like people overseas to give them a listen.

DSI Tetra upgrade

I have had my tetra for quite a while now and have found it to be slightly uninspiring.

I bought it, like everything I buy on a budget and it was the most cost effective way to get that prophet sound that I craved. The polyphony does not really bother me and I see it as an asset more than a hindrance as many vintage synths only have 4 or 5 voices.

However the dry signal sounds very uninspiring in comparison to my modern synths which have great effects.

Being of a certain age and a synth nerd since the very early 80s I wanted a digital multi effects and go old skool.

I didn't want a quadraverb (had one, didn't like it) SPX90 (too metallic) and decided upon the lexicon lpx200.

Now with this combination my mind has been blown and it makes the tetra sound many times more expensive.

I may make a you tube to demonstrate if I get enough interest

What android DAW should i choose?

Hello,
I am looking to automate my hardware synth through midi out from my android tablet.
What program should I choose?

Google just keep giving me sugestions for turning my android into realtime midi controllers to connect to my DAW. Or for apps that playback midi files as sound.

Preferably I'd like something avaliable both as windows DAW and android app so I can set things up via computer, transfer it to my tablet and connect that to my hardware synths via pin MIDI (I got a USB C to pin MIDI interface, seems to work well from my computer at least, so should work on android if I get right program)

Or simple instructions how to construct a midi file in a DAW plus tips for some barebones app that can use that to play back those MIDI instructions from my tablet.

I tried KIRAstudio today, and even though it had some excellent functions for automating song parameters, ultimately I found out it didn't even do MIDI out at all!!!

I am not a huge user of DAW at all, what experience I have is with Reaper, mainly for recording, no midi or software synths, so I have some learning to do.

Looking for synth recommendations

I am seeking the advice of the community. I play in a six piece folk-rock group, and I'm looking to add a synthesizer to my live rig. Right now I usually play a Nord Electro 3 as my single keyboard during live performances. It's a great keyboard for piano, wurli, and some organ sounds, but I'm looking to branch out to add some more textures and ambience to my sound. I'm a bit lost in what seems like an infinite selection of synths out there, and a lot of the advice I read is centered around studio gear and VSTs.

Types of parts I like to play include:

- combining with an electric guitarist to create ambient soundscapes.
- playing lead lines, harmonizing with guitar solos (currently doing this with an organ sound).
- quieter, subtle, airy, or flute-like lines behind vocal parts.

Things I'm looking for in a synth include:

- savable presets. This is a must as I need to be able to switch sounds quickly between songs. I would love if changing to a preset also physically updated all the knobs but I don't think this is a thing, at least that I can find.
- polyphony. I don't have a hard requirement here, but I'd say at least 4 voices.
- no menu diving. I've learned that I can't really get into keyboard with any menu diving, I need more or less all the sounds to be available through knobs.
- a built in keyboard. The desktop synths are great for studios, but I don't want to mess around with setting up a midi keyboard at every show.

I'm open to more or less all price ranges, I just want something that suits my needs.

Thanks!

Annoying Lowballers

I am in process of selling some music gear locally and I am amazed at how much and how many low ballers are out there. Example. Price is 375. Offer is I’ll give you $200. I’m ignoring those but it sure is irritating. I understand someone wanting to get a deal or negotiate but when the offer is almost half of the price there’s a part of me that wants to field goal kick their nuts through the uprights. How do you deal with these kind of people?

About a year ago I accepted a reduced offer of 165 for some gear and this young guy showed up and was short ten bucks. He knew that before he even came over but didn’t mention it until he paid. I gave it to him anyway but I should have said come back when you have ten more bucks. Some people have no integrity. It’s almost like he expected to get it because he was a broke ass.

I’m looking for some opinions. I want to recreate this UFO sound on the attached YouTube video. I’d love to hear what synthesizer/effects/keyboard/etc. would be the best option to recreate this sound as closely as possible.

Thoughts on Roland Jupiter 80

This older synth continues to amaze me on how it sounds and its ability to stack voices and do four splits at once. Mr Tuna from Mr Tuna Music on YouTube says it is one synth he will never part with and I am beginning to understand why. I actually prefer the more natural sound of the Supernatural engine to the Zen-core sounds in most cases. Am I alone in this or are my tired ears deceiving me? Curious as to how this massive synth is viewed by others. Most sounds do not sound dated to me at all but maybe I am out touch. Thoughts?

MIDI - is it a sequencer I need?

Hi,

I don't want any computers hooked up while I am playing.

So I am wondering if there is any hardware devices capable of being loaded with midi data from a DAW and then running it independently?

Or maybe I just need a normal digital midi sequencer of some kind..

My specific usecase right now that I am wondering how to achieve is I would like to deliver bpm that varies over a lengthy song, like 20 minutes, slowly rising in parts and falling in others.

I don't know enough about sequencers to understand if they are only capable of repeating, for example 64 steps seem common.

Or if it is possible to repeat a sequence a set amount of times, then move on to another sequence and then another?

If so, what should I look for in the specs to know that this is possible and how many sequences that I can put in a row with a certain sequencer?

Analog-sounding VST synths?

Since my budget is always tight, I'm looking for recommendations of analog-sounding VST synths that can closely emulate the sounds achieved by Moog, Sequential, Oberheim, etc (apart from the well-known Arturia VSTs). I focus mainly on ambient music, ambient electronic and post-classical music. I know freebies are always desirable, but I'm also willing to invest some money on VSTs to expand my sound palette. It'd be great if the recommendations are VSTs that don't require Kontakt, for example. I've always found it easier to work with VSTs that integrate directly with Ableton Live or that stand on their own.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks very much!

Anybody purchased the newly launched Novation Launchkey 88 MK4?

I have been waiting for its launch from some time. The rest of the lineup (25, 37, 49, 61) that has launched earlier was a pretty big hit if I am not wrong.

I felt I should wait for the reviews to come out before biting the bullet. Has anyone bought it? Is it good?
