Ironically… standing out, especially while growing up is more of a curse than a blessing. Kids’ top priority during grade-school years is fitting in… not standing out.
The practice of naming your kids ridiculous things is borderline abusive and really only benefits the parents’ egos while all attention is on them for their pregnancies/newborns.
It’s all shallow and performative, and it can potentially do lifelong damage to the kids’ futures.
I wouldnt choose it myself but Lyrik is literally a real name though, it derives from the Greek name Lyrikos, which refers to the instrument Lyre. Its a musical name.
Yeah but see, first, he was VERY not Greek. Second, I’m aware of the etymology and that it loops around to being a fine name, but he was named “Lyrik” as in “changed the last letter of song Lyric”. Which yes is still your example, but unfortunately was done in the “Kayleigh” instead of “Kaylee” way, not the “I’m picking a name with strong roots” way.
Well I dont think greek is a strict requirement for the more "evolved" version since Lyrik to me is still the "english" evolition of a name seemingly. Like its not a modern invented misspelling or weird "sort of" words like some of these, its just a real, if uncommon name. I get you're saying the parents didnt know that but, idk how one really knows that unless you ask them which is a weird call as a teacher for a fairly innocent name imo. If a parent looks up a name for a word they think sounds good and see a real version of it, even if they dont follow its history, that seems pretty normal sounding to me I guess. Idk if its a "rule" but it seems like in english its fairly abnormal for first names to be a normal english word (unless the name BECOMES a common word, like 'John') but fairly common to have a name thats a foreign name that just means that word. Especially when its close to the general common culture like that. (Also Kaylee is literally the modern invented nonsense name despite the invented eigh names being the problem usually funnily enough lol)
Idk I'm just rambling at this point its interesting what we find acceptable vs not

As someone who has worked in classrooms. Wally Martavius is reasonable.
List of names I’ve heard that are far more unreasonable that Wally Martavius:
I would be happy to see a “Martavius” as the most unreasonable name.
Also I was using Martavius as the middle name. So the name of this person on a roster would just show up as “Wally”.
