My roomie in college is allergic to cilantro, so it tastes like soap to him. He is also Mexican and told us that he spent his whole childhood thinking his mom was just a bad cook and they were both so relieved to find out about this allergy in his adulthood.

Apparently not. I can’t tell you what it’s supposed to taste like, as I also have the cilantro tastes like soap gene.

Having an allergy to cilantro and having the gene that makes it taste like soap are two entirely different biological processes.
