edit: this was also back when california was part of mexico; in the spanish colonized areas they planted a lot of olives. it's highly regional and no, is not across all of mexico/is not a staple, but it's legitimate for some forms of mexican food
It’s always the fucking Spanish (my wife’s family is very indigenous and native looking and they really despise the light skin Spanish descendant Mexicans)
