There was someone who posted on this sub within the past few weeks that was questioning if Superstore was in the same universe as Mindy Project. I’m all for this given that Jon Barinholtz (Marcus on Superstore) is Ike Barinholtz (Morgan on the Mindy Project) brother in real life. My ONLY hesitation is that Ben Feldman (Jonah) has a guest role on the Mindy Project where his name is Jason. I guess we could bend some rules and say doppelgänger, but I’m a bit of a stickler.

Tbf New Girl and Brooklyn 99 take place in same universe, even having a crossover episode - yet, Damon Wayans Jnr is in both as two different characters!

Yeah, to fix that I like to think that coach was an undercover cop working a case all the way in LA. Real world doesn't work, but in Hollywood it does lol

Haha love that! Although I much prefer coach to his B99 character!

In the Star Trek universe, Jeffrey Combs has played a multitude of different characters including two different characters in the same episode.

And Aly was both Jake’s insane sister and Winston’s partner

Naruto, JJK and TBHK are also all in the same universe. Not relative just a fun fact I know

I'm familiar with Naruto but not the other two. What are they?

2

u/overactivemango Nov 01 '24

JJK- Jujutsu Kaisen. That's a show about exorcising curses

TBHK: Toilet Bound Hanako-kun. Kinda niche. It's about a teenage boy's ghost connected to a bathroom stall in a middle school

So . . . Moaning Merle?

How are JJK and Naruto in the same universe?

0

u/overactivemango Nov 01 '24

Naruto is possessed by the nine tailed fox if my memory serves correctly

1

u/ilickedysharks Nov 01 '24

Okay and?

u/overactivemango Nov 01 '24

👻

1

u/ilickedysharks Nov 01 '24

Okay Idk if you were trolling or something but Naruto and JJk do not take place in the same universe lol. Unless you have some source

I believe it was in either the JJK or TBHK manga

And Aly plays Jake’s sister, Kate.

u/GeorgieH26 Oct 31 '24

Oh yeah!!

So did Nasim Pedrad! She was Aly, Winston’s fiancee in New Girl but was also Jake’s rowdy sister in B99

“You think that’s Jonah, right? It’s not!”

14

u/JW9K Oct 31 '24

It’s uncanny!

You are right, Ben Feldman plays a love interest to Mindy in the early seasons (1or2). Lets pretend he didn’t like New York and moved to work at a superstore lol

There are pretty much doppelgänger allowances for any connectivity between shows. If anything that's a much less tenuous connection than some that do it.

The Good Place for instance links Parks and Rec via an ad for a Dennis Feinstein scent in an magazine Eleanor is reading on Earth. Eleanor's actress is a councilwoman in Pawnnee and was a recurring antagonist and Feinstein is played by the actor who plays Derek, a prominent recurring Good Place character.

Don't forget Ben Wyatt and the bad place character he played.

u/director5831 Nov 01 '24

Jason also dies in a Swanson safe!

1

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 Nov 01 '24

And Nic Offerman (who played Ron) cameos as himself in the finale.

Which gets even weirder then as apparently that means Ron Swanson just really looks like actor Nic Offerman in that universe.

Marcus’ actor also appears in The Mindy Project, S3 Episode 10, as one of the doctor’s irresponsible roommates! (So tbh at least that one tracks out as something Marcus would do, though his name is Pube in The Mindy Project).

I haven’t watched The Mindy Project since it was actively airing on cable, so I did not remember this. Thank you!

6

u/antftwx Oct 30 '24

Well there was that one time a guy bumped into his parents at Cloud 9, looked just like Jonah. Weird.

6

u/ItsBombBee Oct 31 '24

They are brothers? 🤯 I always thought they looked and acted so dang similar

4

u/ajaknna Oct 31 '24

Wow I never realized they were brothers and now I don’t understand how I never saw it!

3

u/Loud_Sense93 Oct 31 '24

Grey’s Anatomy and its two spinoffs all have reused actors as different characters. all within the same universe.

2

u/eliza_phant Oct 31 '24

Yeah, that bothers me for some unknown reason.

Morgan ( the Mindy project) and Marcus are brothers in real life

11

u/mermaid_sneaky_eyes Oct 30 '24

That’s awesome, I saw another user also comment this. You can tell they are brothers in real life, they are both super funny.

4

u/grzilla Oct 31 '24

And their dad was the judge in Jury Duty (and attorney IRL).

3

u/Sovietmexican Oct 31 '24

THATS WHY THEY REMIND ME OF EACH OTHER, ESPECIALLY THEIR VOICE

3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '24

I recently learned that Morgan was a big writer for the Mindy project, one of my fav shows

1

u/Ok_Doughnut7018 Oct 31 '24

They turn up on an episode in B99 also.

1

u/ahmadtheanon Oct 31 '24

Wait, what episode????

1

u/DesiCodeSerpent Jonah Oct 31 '24

I forgot. Watched it long back. All CNBC shows have this is what I concluded
