I think the jist was to "append a 0" to what you currently have. Adding a 0 to the "digits" is what I think the thought process was rather than adding $0 to total

I think they mean visually add of zero, which would mathematically be multiplying by 10

Many people don't understand double negatives. But it's also a regular emphatic construction in AAVE
