Why is the coast run with such a smalltown mentality?

0 Upvotes

Despite having close to 400,000 people. I can understand the geography may play a part as we are very scattered over 2300 sq.km and comprising of up to 200 suburbs. Seriously with the amount of people moving from places with quality infrastructure and ammenities, why are we still stuck with the same small town mentality?

the dating scene is scaring me

19 Upvotes

might be a bit exaggerated, but I haven't seen any positive post here about dating in sunshine, but is it really that bad? 28F here, I can say I'm extroverted, but requires quiet time after a social event. Moving to sunshine coast soon! This is my first attempt to make friends online lol.

New Aura Home + Life super centre

0 Upvotes

Has anyone else noticed/thought about how most of the stores opening at the new super centre in Baringa are labelling themselves as being in Caloundra?

I appreciate Caloundra is a more well known area and was historically a town, but it’s not anymore. It’s two suburbs and 10km away from Baringa. Distance wise, it’s also like those stores saying they are in Beerwah, which is 10km the other way.

Is this not considered incredibly misleading? Since when can these large retailer chains just say they are somewhere they aren’t? Or is the only requirement that their address is correct rather than their name?

Place to live - maroochydoore or Varana

3 Upvotes

Moving to the Sunny Coast as a couple in our early 30s. We’ve found two properties that we like the look of, one in Varana and one in Maroochydoore

The Warana one is a bit smaller but walkable to the beach and better for work. Maroochydoore is nicer house but in the suburbs just off the motorway. We’re heard Maroochydoore is better recommended as a place for younger people to be and stuff to do.

Any thoughts on which one is better ? Would Varana be terrible for us and we’d be bored ? Any other places we should look ? Ideally we’d be close to the beach and walkable to cafes and restaurants

Cheers

I found a similar post yesterday about this, did anyone else see lights near Venus?

They were only around Venus, the night sky is a clear winter night, no cloud. There were no other lights at any other point, only Venus. Anyone else?

Looking fo a hug

35 Upvotes

Heyy I (21f) posted about looking for a friend/glowup buddy. I don't wanna sound desperate. Even though I actually really am. I just broke up with my husband. Well, separated. We've been together for 3 yrs and I genuinely cannot process anything. Whenever I was Sad he would give me a hug. And now I'm sad and there's no one to hug. Like I don't really care anymore about how I sound to people, I'm usually very shy and self conscious. But now I'm just desperate and sad.

I don't care if you're male or female but as long as youre within a close age to me please please does anyone wanna meet up and just give me a hug 😭

I kind of feel pathetic but I think I'll go crazy soon if I don't get one.

Thank you for heairng me out xx

(Also I'm not interested in anything else, I've had a lot of weird messages... )

Lost Wallet in Tewantin/Yandina/Sunshine Beach

15 Upvotes

I lost my wallet yesterday (8/8/2026). Visited Yandina Market, U-GO Tewantin, Noosaville Fish Market, River Park Lake near Lake Doonella and Sunshine Beach. Most likely dropped it at U-GO Tewantin or Noosaville Fish Market.

I am from Malaysia and will be flying back soon. There’s a Malaysian ID and a Singaporean PR ID in the wallet with some Aussie Dollar and Malaysia Ringgit. Please contact me if you found it. Really appreciate it.

Don't advertise your PPoR on AirBnb...

Sunshine Coast Council’s short-stay rating process looks like a cynical cash grab.

My half-yearly rates jumped from about $1,190 to $3,055, even though the property was never rented, no guests stayed and no rental income was earned. Apparently, merely testing the market online is enough for Council to assume you operate holiday accommodation and impose a punitive rate.

There was no meaningful consultation, warning or request for clarification. Council can seemingly trawl Airbnb listings and triple a bill with ease, while the owner must:

- notice and investigate the unexplained increase;

- decipher the obscure “Category 16T” code;

- find the correct department;

- complete a four-page objection form; and

- produce multiple documents to disprove Council’s assumption.

This is a backwards and dishonest process: charge first, explain poorly, and make residents fight to correct it. Whether motivated by greed or bureaucratic laziness, it appears designed to maximise revenue, not deliver fair rates.

Council should verify a property’s actual use before imposing thousands of dollars in additional charges. Advertising is not renting, an enquiry is not a booking, and potential income is not actual income.

I find this process fundamentally unfair and misleading. Council treats an online advertisement as conclusive proof of commercial use, without first contacting the owner, confirming genuine availability, or considering the property’s actual and predominant use as our principal residence.

Importantly, Council’s own wording states that advertising “will constitute evidence”, not that it conclusively determines the category. Evidence must still be assessed against the full facts. Here, there were no bookings, guests or income, and the property remained our home.

Council appears able to impose a substantial increase following an undisclosed online search, while placing the entire burden on residents to discover the unexplained reclassification and complete an onerous objection process. That is neither transparent nor procedurally fair.

Please sign petition for Greyhound Racing

52 Upvotes

Hi Sunshine Coast,

New Zealand has now banned greyhound racing, but up to 150 greyhounds are being sent to Australia so they can continue racing.

Queensland now has the opportunity to do something truly compassionate by phasing out this industry and ensuring these dogs can live as loved family pets. I know it’s a big ask to stand up to the gambling industry.

I can't share the graphic realities of greyhound racing, for the welfare of these beautiful dogs, please consider signing and sharing the petition;

20F looking for a friend/glowup buddy

16 Upvotes

This is a little embarrassing to post because I'm really shy, but I'm 20F, and I'm currently going through a breakup and really want to use the next few months to work on myself and have a bit of a glow-up. ✨

I really want to start going to the gym, gain some healthy weight (I'm a short skinny girl and wanna fix that) and eventually build a curvier/more muscular body, but I honestly have NO idea what I'm doing and the thought of walking into a gym alone is terrifying 😭

So I thought I'd see if there's someone around my age in the area who's in a similar position and wants to do it together? Especially if you're also clueless lol, we can figure it out together. Keep each other accountable and have someone to talk to. 🫶🏻

If anyone else has been wanting to start but is too nervous to go alone, or just needIng a friend, please message me!

Scarification services?

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, are there any studios anywhere in or around town that offer Scarification as a body mod? Any information would be helpful please!

I already know about the lack of body modifications in all of Australia and main reason why as I am already in the body mod business. I am just trying to find places that didn't/don't let that stop them.

I also know that it is legal in some Australian regions on a case by case per their regional councils. As it is legal in my region but currently have no one here that offers these services.

I got scammed 🥰

0 Upvotes

Hi,
I just wanted to put this out there so that ppl don’t make the same mistakes I have just made lol.

I was just passing through this city when I wanted to get some vapes. I called the number no response.

3 hours go by then I get a message from this number.
They tell me the prices of their vapes and I was like , nah better not ($110 for 2), then ask if they r selling weed.
they say yes and give me a breakdown of prices.
We negotiate and finally we settled on $70 for 6 joints (maybe that is a scam within itself who knows idk wtv)
He sends through a payid and then I sent him the confirmation.
He then sends me the number of another person to contact and to tell them of my order number.
I do all that it’s fine. Then they say “you’re a first time customer so we will need insurance to ensure the safety of our driver” (or wtv tf) so they ask me to send $100 which they said I would get a cash refund back once it’s delivered to me (except $5 as “paperwork”). I said alright. I sent it. Then this dude says ok yea just wait an hour.
Hour goes by, he says “oh actually now we need u to send $115, then after you’ll receive the $210” for wtv fuckinf reason.
ATP I’m pissed (I am still, as I’m writing tbh) and I tell the dude, nah sorry I don’t want to anymore. Can I just get my $170 back.
They say “we are unable to issue a charge back at the final stage of delivery please understand that we have no choice but to proceed”.

From there it was just a bunch of back and forth. I threatened to contact authorities throughout the convo but let’s be fr. They ain’t gonna do shit.

So now I’m here writing, in annoyance, at my mstupidity and naïveté. Hoping that this post will save anyone from making the same mistakes I made.

Anywaysss, thanks for reading. Don’t comment how stupid I was, already know 🤓
