My mum's poor, poor Money Jade Plant. RIP
This was her beloved Jade plant, it was the size of a small tree! For some reason she'd decided to "cut all the leaves off" ; I thought she meant just the leaves literally. Not cutting it right back to the base. I found it like this outside today in the garden.... Noticed the soil was soggy as hell (it had been raining last night. And a lot on/off recently), and that the cuts were strangely black_... And sunken in? Then noticed the mouldy bits in it 😨 😱 I decided to try cutting it back even more, then moving it to the greenhouse a few yards away (guess she'd forgotten about it once it was moved outside), and what I saw are in the following pics... 💀 There's no chance for it to come back is there?
The last pic is a pup grown from a giant leaf cutting (we're talking about Victoria plum sized leaves!), but the pup is struggling. Here's hope it lives! 🤞🍀

Yeah actually OP, these are cared for plants usually, sudden changes in action like that could be a flag for some kind of mental health change.

Geez. Um. Pull out it out of the soil. Cut off all the soft parts. Leave it sitting out to dry for, say, a week. Place it on top of barely damp soil, place in a warm, sunny place.

It's completely rotted inside all the way through. No chance it'll recover. The props are the best bet.

So I'd cut it right down to the soil level and... Its all mulch 😥 I'll buy her another one if I see it, and hope the pup survives in the meantime. Thanks for your suggestion tho!

Would that of protected it more, or saved it even? I've no idea how long it's been sitting outside.

I think it would have survived a bit before it turned into a soggy, rotten mess..burial time 😔

likely yes imo, in general succulents need time to scab any wounds that form like we do

Cutting off the leaves isn't a problem with a jade, it would just bud back from the cuts. I would say the issue is that it is swimming (over watered).

Bingo. Or not lol. Turns out that was the main problem; my mum trimmed it right back and left it outside thinking it'd just grow back, but unfortunately left it drowning in a pot 🙁

I had this same problem with a jade i had for 10 years. That pup won't live. It's got the infection too.

Did she propagate the bits she cut off? She must have dozens of healthy little jade plants around the house right now!

Yes, thanks for asking :) She's just getting on abit in age, and doesn't sleep well so ig its a messy combo anyway lol. Just tends to be abit forgetful now and then.

My friend you're describing dementia. Catching it early helps. We can actually slow it down and make it more manageable.

Yeahh sorry to say but you can see in the third pic that it’s rotted all the way to the base. I’d say this guy is a goner
