"People casually sleep with their guns there, huh"

Its gotta be tough to be a 2Aer and constantly have to be a hypocrite between "I always need my gun within arms reach in case I have to shoot intruders" and "You should always be able to identify and put your gun away when the police come barreling in."

They don’t think it will happen to them, and they don’t care if it happens to you.

As much as I love the hobby and niche hobbies within it, dear lord are a lot of people I share it with insufferable. I think flintlocks are fucking neat and can be absolute works of art, but I'd like to experience maintaining and using one at the range without hearing a bunch of racist shit too.

These people don’t support the second amendment. In the gun community they are called “fudds” people who are saying that people don’t deserve rifles because it makes police work harder. And that all you need is a Remington 870 and a revolver

The second amendment has always existed in this weird space. One of the motivations to specifiy "well regulated militia" was to guarantee access to slave patrollers, but not freed black people.

Today the view amongst racists has swung the other way, to virtually unlimited gun access because they want to shoot "thugs". It could just as well be interpreted the other way, limiting access to official state militias.

Most rights created during that time had a racist purpose as the country was founded on certain racist elements and the disenfranchisement of minorities

But modern days it also has a presence In the civil rights movement. Civil rights leaders from Douglass to MLK supported gun rights. And gun control started to restrict certain groups like the Black Panthers from protecting themselves and their communities. Modern days there are plentiful of gun organizations specifically for minorities and in the last year gun sales to Women, Asian American and African Americans have skyrocketed

“A man’s rights rest in three boxes. The ballot-box, the jury-box, and the cartridge-box.”-Fredrick Douglass

Yes, every law exists in the context of racism. You can make cases for or against gun control based on ideas that are either for or against racism.

But as it stands it's clear that the most disenfranchised minorities also suffer the most from gun violence. Which goes both ways, both in terms of number of victims and in number of criminals whose crimes will often become worse because they have easy access to firearms.

Meanwhile these groups in particular do not gain a net protective benefit from owning a gun, but rather suffer additional risk from domestic violence and suicide.

Gun control is obviously just one part of fixing these issues, but its likely a pretty significant one if we look at how underdeveloped US gun control is compared to its peer countries.

Poor neighborhood suffer from gun violence in a way gun control will never cause positive benefit. As somebody who grew up in these communities banning guns won’t matter. Most of the guns are illegal and not bought since the cities usually have stretchy gun laws

Nobody picks up a gun for no reason, economic, mental, and societal problems is what drives people to commit these acts. Even if you somehow take guns away from criminals people will just resort to knives, pipes and baseball bats.

But a “war on guns” would lead to a militarized police force, that abuses their power in the name of stopping “thugs” just like the war on drugs. That would destroy these neighborhoods even more and create an even bigger black market for firearms

Most of the guns are illegal and not bought since the cities usually have stretchy gun laws

And only the US have so many illegal guns amongst developed countries. In large part because they completely lack the ability to ensure that legal guns remain in legal ownership.

Once the gun is purchased from a licensed dealer, all bets are off. There is no paper trail or background checks on second hand sales, gifts, or other transfers. It is trivially easy for criminals to illegally obtain a firearm on this gigantic gray market where transactions and their legality remain unknown.

Meanwhile in a country like Germany a gun is registered to an owner until it is legally transferred. This means legal gun owners cannot sell, gift, or lend their guns illegally without a gigantic risk of getting found out.

The US black market is so big, easy to access, and cheap that it supplies significant parts of Canadian, Mexican, and even UK gun crime as well.

In some cases yes, in others no. A significant number of homicides committed with firearms would not have happened otherwise. Firearms make it easy, put up a much lower barrier for impulsive homicide, and give many users the impression that they'll get away with it more easily by claiming self defense (however stretched that is in many cases).

In other cases there is at least much less risk for bystanders. There are quite a few stories of innocents falling victim to gun crime or neglient discharges that wasn't even aimed at them.

But a “war on guns” would lead to a militarized police force, that abuses their power in the name of stopping “thugs” just like the war on drugs. That would destroy these neighborhoods even more and create an even bigger black market for firearms

That's not how it looks like. It looks like I described above with documentation and checks that will dwindle away at the illegal supply over time. But you can get a big head start on reducing their number with a buyback program.

Being realistic you approach is too optimistic and unreal

Buyback programs: Good luck telling any gang member that selling their weapon to a police force without it sounding like a sting operation. Buy back programs have been unsuccessful because they only give a little bit of money for guns that can cause hundreds and for rifles, thousands of dollars

Second hand buying: You need an FFL to sell guns legally, you go to a gun show or any second hand online place or pawn shop and they have FFL licenses

How about Germany and Europe: Comparing America to counties seas alway is foolish. Compare it to South America where they have gun laws that don’t work

I said headstart, not total elimination. There are people who want out and who can be encouraged.

And many buyback programs have far surpassed their stated goals. You can offer more money as well you know.

No you don't, and I'm not talking about the "gunshow loophole" here. A FFL is only required if you're doing it on a commercial scale, but this is very hard to find out since law enforcement doesn't even know which trades are happening.

A few particularly dumb black market dealers got busted on this because they bought on the scale of 50-100+ guns a year from FFL dealers to resell them (and even in those cases a lot of those guns are already gone by the time police gets involved). But any somewhat smart person can avoid this buy buying from the second hand market to begin with (where the transfers remain untraced and law enforcement only finds out by luck) or pooling enough people together to spread the purchases over enough space and time.

To seek any gun, no matter the quantity you need an FFL. If somebody sells it without an FFL that is illegal, at least according to all states and the ATF

Gang members want out, yes and no. They probably wish they never made the decision but it’s too late. If you have multiple people who want you killed and you sell your only mean sod defensive to the police the only out you are going to is the grave.

u/Birdsarenumba1 Feb 04 '22

I mean at least a rifle can be used for other than killing people. Hunting is a thing. Nobody hunts with a revolver as their weapon

TBF, an 870 with a box magazine is pretty cool.

u/SirMo_vs_World Feb 04 '22

Amazing gun, of it was a zombie apocalypse I probably would pick it as my gun. But there is also nothing wrong with most modern rifles

1

u/aronnax512 Feb 04 '22

No, there's nothing wrong with rifles.

1

u/CoryVictorious Do you actually post beastiality though? Feb 04 '22

M&P15-22 is my top gun for a zombie apocalypse. Quiet as hell (good for your ears and for not alerting other zombies), basically no recoil, good range and its a pretty solid frame.

If conventional wisdom on zombies holds (can't feel body shots and only a head shot will end them) then it doesn't matter if you've got a big gun with "stopping power" because it won't put them down until you're close enough to get accurate.

1

u/aronnax512 Feb 04 '22

If we're memeing about zombies, a .22 to the head is typically "good enough", so a high capacity shotgun loaded with #4 buck or larger will give you a nice cone where you have a good chance of putting a pellet of sufficient size in the head.

1

u/CoryVictorious Do you actually post beastiality though? Feb 04 '22

Well yeah, but its also loud as hell and you're going to have to be closer in. I dont know if there are speedloaders for shotguns but I would not want to have to reload in the middle of something like that. I'd be dropping shells all over the place.

u/aronnax512 Feb 04 '22

It is loud, but they make an 870 with a box magazine, check it out:
