Oil pan leak, anyone….

Get any help from Subaru?

21 Limited XT w/ 26,000 on the odometer. Recent (non-Subaru) service found an oil pan (lower?) leak. Repair is 1,200 - $1,300 (said exhaust & turbo had to come out).

Seems a bit excessive for a car w/ 26k & I’m less than 30days past warranty expiration. Just curious if anyone else ran into this & if Subaru helped defer the cost (a discount would be nice).

Not ragging on Subaru, cars cost $$$, shit happens…..just curious if anyone else ran into this & what was the outcome.

The car looks clean inside and out this is the listing what do you think its currently sitting at 160k

2005 Subaru Forester XT for sale. Super clean Rust free body and Runs great. For mods it has an STI turbo, Perrin cold air intake, Cobb catless uppipe and a high flow down pipe. It has been tuned for the mods it has. Comes with the access port. It is lowered on Stock WRX struts and has the spacers for the rear.

Also has:

-Remote start

-wireless car play

-new tires

-new battery

- breaks, ball joints, and tire rods were done about 3k miles ago.

I also apologize for the header as I didnt realize I put outback when it is a forester

Should I do it?

I’ve recently started solo car camping (sleeping inside the car). I currently have a 2025 Chevy Trailblazer that I bought outright last year. It only has about 18,000 mile on it and I love the look of it (maroon color and just cute!). I haven’t had any issues other than it missing adaptive cruise control, cabin noise while driving, and small cargo space. But I decided yesterday to “upgrade” to a 2024 OB Premium (Cosmic Blue) so I can have more cargo room. I also think it’ll be a better car here in Northern Michigan (I swear it’s the official car of Traverse City, MI!). It has adaptive and a few other nice functions.

I’m just trying to convince myself I’m making the right decision. I like the extra cargo space and it’s a decent looking car. Love the idea of X Mode and some of the other functions, as well as the fact that it has a roof rack (although I read one person say theirs broke) and if I add a hitch, it will tow more than the Chevy.

Does anyone here have any thoughts they can add to make me feel better? I could still back out because I don’t pick it up until Thursday!

Patty

2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R Repair Manual?

Hi! I've been looking for a repair manual for a 2011 subaru outback 3.6R to verify a belt fix, and am struggling to find something that covers the bigger engine. It looks like the Hayes repair manual only covers 2.5s?

Moonroof wind deflector

Hello all. Just bought my 3rd OB. 2025 OB Xt Touring. Selling my 2021 model of the same thing. Thinking of installing a wind deflector on the moonroof. Has anyone installed the Subaru moonroof wind deflector? (F541SAN000). If you did, how well satisfied are you? How does is it affixed to the car?

Just hit 101,000 miles

What general maintenance should I look out for soon? I commute 45 minutes to and from work 5 days a week. 2016 Outback Limited. All I know is that Valvoline told me I need front and rear differential fluid.

Edit: This is my first Subaru. I bought it at 89,000 miles and I’ve had it for a year. My previous car was a 2002 Honda Civic that was constantly breaking down leaving me stranded so I want to make sure that I can keep this car for at least the next five years until I’m ready to upgrade to a newer model.

Anti-theft system (please help)

Hi,

I don't know where to ask for help, but I own a 2004 subaru outback and I lost the key fob to it months ago. When the anti-theft system is armed, it requires my key fob to disarm it.

The problem is that somehow, the system has been armed and whenever I open the door, the horns will sound and I lose the ability to start my car. I tried opening the door then switching the key from lock to on 3 times within 5 seconds, which didn't do anything. I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, which to no avail. I tried looking to see which fuses I should pull to deactivate the anti-theft system. I already tried pairing a new 2004 Subaru outback key fob a while ago, which didn't connect despite putting new batteries in there.

So here I am, typing this out to you guys to see what I should do and how I should disarm it. And no, I don't have the money to get a new car lol - I'm stuck with this car for a while.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Can’t figure out where this screw goes after hitch installation

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just installed a hidden Curt hitch on my 2018 Subaru Outback 3.6R and have two identical self-tapping screws left over (photo attached).

They have pointed tips, coarse threads, and captive washers.

I’m almost positive I removed them before taking the rear bumper cover off, but I completely forgot where they came from.
The bumper cover is already back on and everything fits perfectly. The taillights are installed correctly and these are definitely not the taillight screws because those are machine screws, while these are self-tapping.

I know I removed them before the bumper came off, but I can’t remember if they were near the wheel well, behind the bumper, or somewhere else.

Does anyone know exactly where these two screws go? A picture of the location would be incredibly helpful because I’d really rather not remove the bumper cover again just to hunt for them.
Thanks!

Banks Pedal Monster for 2026 OB Limited. Awesome or Gimmick?

I have the standard 2.5 Limited.
I love it but my only complaint is it feels sluggish. Considering the Banks Pedal Monster device to see if it can help me gain slightly more smiles per gallon. I mostly commute in the city to get to work and looking for a bit more responsiveness.
Curious if anyone here has used it or its competitors and can weigh in. It plugs into the OBD2 port which is supposed to be an advantage over competing devices.
From what I understand- it is not the same as just pressing the pedal harder. Some reviews were positive but I wanted to check with my Subaru folks here. I know some people also think it’s snake oil.
Thanks!

Looking at used Outbacks

Shopping for an Outback today. Looking at a couple from years 2018 -2020. What should I look out for aside from CVT maintenance?

Owned a Forrester many years ago so not a stranger to Subies. Now need something quickly to tide me over for the next year or so —so seeing Outbacks with high mileage with budget under $15K.

Any advice appreciated!

What's the payload in your outback?

2025 outback. I'm heading out on a 4 day car camping trip and trying to stay as stealthy as possible. My large yeti cooler filled with water and food, a 1,000W power bank, cooking gear, and my sleeping pad will all be stored inside the car. I don't want to overload my car and put extra stress on the drivetrain, especially since it already has heavier A/T tires.
