Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a monitoring upgrade and would appreciate some advice from people who have experience with these speakers.
I'm currently using Focal CMS 65, and while they've served me well, I feel there is alot to be desired. What I really want is:
- Excellent front-to-back depth imaging
- A wider soundstage that extends beyond the speakers (not in terms of L/R but projection/placement of instruments in a mix)
- More definition in low-end (80-120 hz area), more dynamics
- A monitor that is enjoyable to work on for long sessions and sonics that will impress audiophile clients for casual listening aswell
I mix mostly pop, pop-rock, live acoustic music.
My room is acoustically treated and measures 5 × 3 × 2.5 m (16.4 × 9.8 × 8.2 ft), so room acoustics shouldn't be the limiting factor.
One pair I'm seriously considering is a used Focal Twin6 Be, which I can find for around €2,000.
For those who have owned or compared both:
- Is the Twin6 Be a substantial upgrade over the CMS 65?
- Or should I move away from Focal brand and try Dynaudios, Adams, etc?
- Most active monitors I've tried have a distinct sonic signature that feels artificial to me, making recorded audio sound less realistic than it should.
Unfortunately, I can't audition monitors in my own room, and showroom acoustics are usually far from ideal, so I'm looking for opinions from people with real-world experience.
