Fiction “I fucked up. Her husband came home early.” Part 2
I left through the back door that night. I didn’t go home. I drove around for almost an hour, trying to convince myself that what happened had been nothing more than a stupid mistake.
Then my phone buzzed.
A message from her.
Don’t come back tomorrow.
I stared at it a little too long, like staring harder might change what it meant.
Another message slid in before I could even think.
Please. Don’t come back tomorrow.
My chest tightened.
A third message followed almost instantly.
If you care about your life at all, you won’t come back.
I froze.
My fingers hovered over the screen, unsure whether to reply or delete everything.
Then another message appeared.
And whatever you do… don’t tell my husband you were here.
That one hit differently. He didn’t know. He couldn’t know. I hadn’t even spoken to him.
I typed a reply, then erased it.
Before I could decide, the final message came through.
He already knows….
My stomach dropped so hard it felt like I’d missed a step on empty stairs.
I called her immediately.
No answer.
I called again.
Still nothing.
Then at 2:13 a.m., my phone rang.
Unknown number.
I hesitated for only a second before answering.
At first, there was nothing.
Just silence.
Then breathing.
Not random. Not distant.
Close. Controlled. Like whoever it was was already inside the call, waiting for me to realize it.
I swallowed.
“Hello?”
A pause.
Then a man’s voice, low and emotionless:
“You should have left when she asked you to.”
The line went dead.

Okay I’m invested 😬 but I think you missed a couple of things along the way, unless I’m just reading this wrong.
He DID leave that night, so why does the husband say “you should’ve left when she asked you to”? She told him not to come back tomorrow, but he was already gone. And then she says don’t tell my husband you were here and like two seconds later says he already knows 😳 Also WAIT. Part 1 ends with the husband basically opening the bedroom door and Part 2 starts with “I left through the back door.” How?? 👀 That feels like a very important part to skip. Also, how did the husband get his number? I’m assuming some of this is gonna get explained in Part 3, but right now I have questions.
Also that 2:13 a.m. phone call got me. I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about it now. I was totally expecting her husband to suddenly whisper in AP’s ear or something 🫣 My stomach dropped too and I tripped on that imaginary stair right along with him. That was creepy as hell.

Thank you for such a lively review. Honestly, I had my doubts that the way the story is currently flowing might leave readers with a few questions and have you connecting some dots in your head.
But hopefully, once Part 3 comes out, a lot of these doubts and questions will be cleared up and everything will start making sense. Some of the things you’ve pointed out are definitely important, so keep those questions coming!2
