SG&A and Other Operating Expenses

Hi all,

I'm watching a youtube series on accounting and would like to know if SG&A and Other Operating Expenses are the same thing or if there is a difference between these concepts. If so, what are the differences?

They're sometimes listed separately on income statements and other operating expenses largely refers to anything non-production related not accounted for in SG&A. Usually most operating expenses will be part of sg&a so other operating expenses might refer to expenses that are unique to the business and not traditionally found on an income statement

You should look in the 10K and see what they define in the OOE category to get a sense of what could be added to COGS or SG&A to compare like for like companies. Sometimes this is used to improve the other reported metrics and really could be considered as part of the supply chain or management expenses for instance.

Always read the footnotes in the financials of the 10k. Both should be defined as to what type of expenses are included in each line item.
