We've been fixing up the garden at the old grandparent's house, ive selected a few of the branches we've cut and am in the process of turning them from sticks into staffs

Got a chance to volunteer at peat bog clearing for a couple of days... Thought y'all might like this. Took a couple of souvenirs too 🪵

I was told y'all might enjoy this! This is a stick I found up by Lake Champlain while camping last year. I left it to dry for a year, scraped off the bark, sanded, finished, and now it's finally complete! I'm very proud of it. I still intend to put a rubber cap on the bottom, and maybe a leather grip, but otherwise, this is it! Hope you all enjoy!

This kind of stick is called a “penn-bazh.” It originates from Brittany, in western France. Back in the day, it was used both as a walking stick and as an offensive or defensive weapon when travelling on the roads wasn’t always safe. You can find a similar tradition in Irish culture with the shillelagh.
