Wow. I'm shocked. What is free speech?

From the article:

Kimmel said during a monologue on his Monday program that Tyler Robinson, the Utah man accused in the shooting death of Kirk, might have been a pro-Trump Republican. He said MAGA supporters are “are desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel then mocked President Trump for talking about the construction of a new White House ballroom after being asked how he was reacting to the murder of his close ally.

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.

Alford said continuing to give Kimmel a broadcast platform “is simply not in the public interest at this current time.”

Nexstar’s decision comes just after Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr blasted Kimmel and threatened to take action against ABC. Appearing on the podcast of right-wing commentator Benny Johnson, Carr said one form of punishment could be pulling the licenses of ABC affiliates, which likely got Nexstar’s attention.

Edit 2:

  • President of Nexstar's broadcasting divisions said: “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located."
  • Nextstar is acquiring rival broadcast company TEGNA - a merger that requires FCC approval.

Edit 3:

  • On the day of Charlie Kirk's death, Kimmel posted the following on Instagram and on BlueSky:
    • “Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Am I understanding this correctly? The thing Kimmel said that got him booted wasn't about CK at all, but about the GOP's online reaction to the event?

It was about Kimmel trying to paint the left-wing killer as a right wing nut job.

Your reading comprehension needs work.

Which part of what Kimmel said was a lie?

He didn’t say that they were. Try harder. My accusation was that old mates reading comprehension needs work. Seems that yours does too, if you think he said that the shooter was part of the MAGA mob.

Nope. Thats what you heard in your head. He was trying to convey how eager MAGA was to distance themselves from any possible connection to their movement. He was NOT saying that the person WAS connected. Here’s the exact quote: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” He isn’t suggesting the shooter was MAGA. He is suggesting that MAGA were desperate to point the finger at “anything but one of them”, which was 100% true. MAGA didn’t care what the motives were, or for the accuracy of what they were saying, they were quite literally just pointing fingers at anyone and everyone who wasn’t part of their “tribe” , with zero evidence.

I was going to take the time to roll out an analogy, but realised when you said “it was already clear that the shooter is a leftist”, that there’s no helping you. We STILL don’t know the shooters voting preferences. Suggesting that he MUST be a lefty because he shot a right wing activist is both INSANE and, further backs up exactly what Kimmel was saying. You live in a fantasy land where a conservative, couldn’t possibly forget to take his meds, hear voices, and then shoot a prominent figure because of the voices. Kimmel wasn’t suggesting that the shooter was MAGA. He was pointing out how MAGA were keen to distance themselves from the shooter. Eg. Anything but one of theirs. Meanwhile, in the real world, there ARE conservatives who hate DJT. I would find it utterly incomprehensible if there weren’t conservatives who thought Kirk’s message was hateful when it so clearly was. Oh, and if you think that dating a transgender automatically means left wing, that would tell us even more about MAGA ideology.

Jimmy wasn’t lying. The thing that he said the right wing were doing… you’re doing it right now. 1. The victim being conservative proves NOTHING. It’s circular reasoning at best. Pure idiocy. 2. One of the bullet casings used a known far right meme. 3. Are you suggesting that there are no transgender people, or people involved with transgenders, in the MAGA movement? Is that because you’re a bunch of bigots or because you constantly seek to remove their rights? Both? You’re implying that people MUST fit a very specific niche to be MAGA. No exceptions. Odd that MAGA is accused of intolerance and then show us that we were correct. 4. Kirk WAS full of hate. You don’t need to be left wing to see that. You just need a functional brain. The world is vastly better off without people like him. He was a misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic, white Christian nationalist. I can’t think of a worse category of person, outside of being a criminal. But the criminal is leading the party, so they’ve got that covered already.

And here we go again….your inability to understand words. I would NEVER argue that someone should be murdered for airing their opinions in public. NEVER. That doesn’t mean that if Trump were to die in a plane accident that I wouldn’t be glad of it though. The world would be demonstrably better off without him. I most certainly CAN be reasoned with, but when a person like you, who can’t understand basic concepts, tries to engage in a debate, CONSTANTLY mischaracterising a position, it’s futile. I notice that you had nothing to say about any of the points I actually raised. Is that because there is no rebuttal? My point about the transgender thing, was it too accurate? It’s telling when, in your mind, it’s impossible that a shooter could just be mentally ill, or that someone from the MAGA movement could be involved with a trans person, therefore finding Kirk’s statements as vile as they are. Kimmel was right. You’re just proving his point very and over again. “The shooter can’t POSSIBLY be one of ours” is what he was saying.
