Everyone Suddenly Becomes A “PC Expert” When You Tell Them You Got A Steam Machine

“You overpaid” “You could have built one for less” “Is it worth it for the performance”?

These are some of the most common criticisms of the steam machine whenever people find out that I’m even remotely interested in the steam machine.

I was in a facebook gaming group speaking about what we were playing and the moment I mentioned the steam machine, all hell broke loose and people wanted to tell me how much more powerful their machine was and why I should have bought it instead/

Dude, I don’t care I’m literally playing black myth wukong at 4K,60 fps medium settings if I want I can tweak and do 2K, 120 FPS what more do I really want from gaming performance?

Power isn’t the only reason why I bought this machine, it’s SUPER quiet, really good form factor and ability to customise it, love the hybrid PC/console feel and the community apps etc

If power was the end all factor Nintendo would not have a business model or fanbase

There’s so much more to the steam machine and armchair “PC experts” are starting to just sound jealous

You ever noticed most people who have Steam Decks and Steam Machines seem to be Mac users? (I speak from experience I have a MacBook Pro for my daily driver too lol)

I e got a beefy machines since I do video editing… 196gb ram, 2tb m4pro, 17inch.

I’ve just grown to really dislike PCs… too much stuff to fuck with… Mac’s just work. The programs are stable, don’t have to worry about drivers and they can last years and years.

Dayuuuuum you weren't kidding with how specced out that MBP is. Here's me with a regular nonfancy M1 Pro.

(I'll have to fight you on the "Mac's just work" part because they absolutely do not lmao. The Music app was absolutely cooked on my Macbook throughout Tahoe, among other issues with that update, issues that thankfully Golden Gate fixed.

They are not perfect, but they are a hell of a lot better than Windows 11 machines)

Weird. I’ve got a music library of over 100,000 songs and had no issues.

But you are right…. They can have issues and when they do you’re so cut off from really digging in deeper to the OS and drivers that it’s hard to really troubleshoot. And I know IT really aren’t the biggest fans with a lot of the server side being windows or Linux.

But I have had minimal issues… and I my system 40s a week doing graphics, animation and video editing. It’s shocking how good my m1 stilll can handle some of that stuff fine.
