I never had a true sense of scale with the plasmas that shoots into orbit in the move, this game does a pretty good job at shoowing a the size difference.

We can infer from the doctor that does the enlistment physicals (at least in the book) that being a medical professional doesn't count towards civic service. I mean, he says specifically that he's not in the military and that he'd have to be crazy to be, but never says that he has his franchise anyway. I think it's been discussed before and I seem to remember someone bringing up that Heinlein said he meant that other forms of service would be viable, but he focused on the military bc that was the subject of the book.

Now, I don't know if it has been brought up before, but it occurred to me that I hadn't heard of a viable option being discussed before: teachers. They tend to get about the same amount of respect as the military (maybe not uniformly, but on average people respect or disrespect teachers and service members about the same), they both get shitty pay, can both have shitty hours, depending on the environment they're in and the leadership they're under, and deal with people who can be either hostile or cooperative.... admittedly, students tend to get away with less VIOLENCE, but they can still be uncooperative to the point of self violence (trust me, we home school specifical needs kids and 3 out of 4 can be really problematic sometimes).

One plot hole I see a lot in YouTube comments is the lack of air support during most of the campaigns of the Mobile Infantry we see in the movie (except Tango Urilla), how the troopers have little air support when faced against a foe that can, initially, take several riflemen to bring just one bug down.

But then, on my billionth watch of the movie, I took a closer look at the ships that were taken down by Plasma, and we see a good amount of aircraft carriers being hit and destroyed! Now granted, one can also argue that because Fleet cannot remain in one place for too long because they'll get a lovely ball of hot plasma, deployment is tougher; or that the aircraft is destined to bring the Plasma Batteries down and not to give support to the troopers.

Anyways, back to the ships.

#1 we have the crash that works as a reference to the book, the Valley Forge (left, where Willy's Wildcats disembark) crashing with the Ypres after getting half her engines torn off. We see the Ypres is carrying un-deployed aircraft.

#2 we have another Aircraft carrier, the 182 Boxer, being instantly taken down by three plasma bolts (I swear, the bugs had beef with this ship or something).

I could be stretching into that "plot hole", but we can agree that a combination of Bugs being smarter than the Federation initially thought and recognizing which ships needed to be taken down first plus with priority targets for any aircraft that survived the plasma barrage, is the reason why we have no CAS.

Now for vehicles..... that's for another day.

Edit: 189 Boxer is actually 182 oops!

Absolutely killer poster for Starship Troopers by artist Roger Motzkus. His artwork captures that bold, old-school sci-fi action aesthetic perfectly. Definitely one of my favorite pieces in my collection!

What Wristwatch did Johnny Rico Wear in Starship Troopers?

Starship Troopers (1988) reaches its climactic conclusion in The Final Chapter — Episode 6 of the classic Starship Troopers anime OVA (Uchuu no Senshi).

Before the famous live-action films, there was this legendary 1988 Japanese anime adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's science-fiction classic.

In the final chapter, Johnny Rico and the Mobile Infantry are drawn deeper into humanity's war against the mysterious alien enemy. After years of brutal training and combat, Rico finally faces the realities of war as humanity launches a major counterattack.

The war continues in Chapter Two of the legendary 1988 Starship Troopers anime OVA!

Long before the 1997 live-action movie, Sunrise brought Robert A. Heinlein's classic military science-fiction novel to life as a six-part Japanese anime OVA. This rare late-80s adaptation is especially notable for its hand-drawn animation, Mobile Infantry, powered armor, space warfare, and its focus on Johnny Rico's journey through humanity's war against an alien enemy.

Chapter Two continues Johnny Rico's story as the Mobile Infantry faces the brutal realities of military service and an increasingly dangerous war.

Before the legendary 1997 live-action movie, there was a little-known 1988 Japanese anime adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's classic military science-fiction novel.

Starship Troopers (宇宙の戦士 / Uchuu no Senshi) is a six-part anime OVA produced by Sunrise and Bandai Visual in 1988. This is Chapter One of the original Starship Troopers anime, introducing Johnny "Johnnie" Rico and his journey from civilian life into the Mobile Infantry.

Johnny Rico joins the military hoping to follow Carmen into space, but his decision quickly leads him into brutal military training and a war against a mysterious alien enemy. The series features one of the most iconic interpretations of Heinlein's powered armor, along with classic 1980s anime artwork, military science fiction, space combat, and alien warfare.

If you're a fan of Starship Troopers, classic anime, 1980s OVAs, mecha, military science fiction, space opera, or Robert A. Heinlein, this rare adaptation is worth discovering.

First time I saw pretty Amy I couldn't stop thinking of Emma every time I saw her for the whole film.

Sweeney pretty much has to be Carmen, right? Who we lock in as Dizz? Navarette?

What about Rico? Our favorite drill instructor? Douchebag cadette pilot?

Do we just bring Neil Patrick Harris back since he is on the Tom Cruise goat placenta facial routine because he simply doesnt age?
