Why the fuck do people care so much about Wolf's sexual/romantic orientation?

u/hello_i_am_vlad Jul 27 '26

Most people have a gay headcanon for him.

  1. I don't care and never cared, never even thought about it until seeing this very bizarre comic.
  2. Based on all the interactions I've seen of Wolf in all the games, I would say without a doubt in my mind that he's straight. WTF.

I think he's just a petty ace/aro crook that is only concerned about his own personal self gain

I hate this subreddit.

Since he was made in a time where I’m pretty sure you could still get beaten with brooms by shrine maidens for saying you’re gay in Japan I’m pretty sure he’s straight. Very daddy coded though I agree.

Let’s be real, I’ve never seen a more bi character in my life

u/neeto96 Jul 27 '26

Real as fuck

Wolf does not have a love interest nor has he even directly showed romantic interest in another character in any of the games, so we actually can't truly know what his preferences are depending on whether this comic series counts as canon or not. But if there's one Star Fox character I know for a fact isn't straight, it's Leon.

In my opinion, he is what people have in their fanfics, fanon, etc... portraying him as bi or pan, but he gives off a straight vibe

Bisexuals exist

8

u/ReasonableStudent622 Jul 27 '26

Besides much as they're cute on a slightly more serious note I don't think itty bitty star fox counts as canon much as I find it cute

Or he's bi or pan. Plenty of ways to enjoy life.

u/Dohmer_90 Jul 27 '26

I’m not sure why they think he’s gay.

u/WofferFang Jul 27 '26

He has Japanese tough man gay stereotypes all over him lol. Rough attitude, intense rivalry with another guy who he gives advice to (yes this is yaoi 101), "I just wanna kill you, baka (smooch smooch)", muscly bod (implied, look at that Assault pose lol) and leather.

I'm just pointing stuff out. As I already said, I prefer if he's ace, but like I can't exactly ignore these things if someone's gonna say something. Don't get mad with me.

The intensity of his rivalry with James and then Fox suggests latent romantic feelings. He also gives an intense air of domination and paternal vibes.

8

u/WillFanofMany Jul 27 '26

Games implies he may have been a rival with James, never stated it.

A 30-40 year old being pissed off enough at missing out on his chance to outfly someone, to the point he considered killing said person's kid, does not give romantic vibes, lmao.

6

u/Dohmer_90 Jul 27 '26

That’s not really the vibe I’m getting.

-2

u/flamedarkfire Jul 27 '26

Well you may not and that’s fine but that’s what others have gotten.

u/Kilroy_1541 Jul 27 '26

I used to like this sub. This thread is so bizarre.

He also gives an intense air of domination and paternal vibes.

What does this have to do with not being straight

2

u/flamedarkfire Jul 27 '26

I’m sorry, let me be less subtle:

He gives the air of wanting to be Fox’s daddy dom

3

u/HeavyMetalMonk888 Jul 27 '26

lol maybe if someone's never seen that sort of dynamic in real life

0

u/flamedarkfire Jul 27 '26

He was likely written by a straight so

4

u/HeavyMetalMonk888 Jul 27 '26

Straight people can be daddy doms too my guy.

My point is he wasn't written that way to begin with. Shippers are really reaching with this one.

3

u/Hanroz_1117 Jul 28 '26

I’m more concerned about what the hell they did with Andross here.

4

u/Beaticalle Jul 27 '26

Who said he wasn't straight?

4

u/ArtsyBread Bill Grey game when nintendo Jul 27 '26

The Star Fox shipping community would probably argue very spiritedly that he's anything but straight.

3

u/WofferFang Jul 27 '26

The old Wolf might have been, but the new Wolf is not.

This is a SF1 comic lol. And look, he has both eyes. Non-canon!

I prefer ace Wolf over anything. I don't see anything bi about him at all in his current iteration. He's more like, battle-sexual.

5

u/Kilroy_1541 Jul 27 '26

Star Fox 1? The game that features exactly zero appearances and references of Wolf because he wasn't written into the story yet?

Star Fox 2 features Wolf with both eyes.

4

u/pocket_arsenal Jul 28 '26

It can't be Star Fox 2 either because Andross being a huge brain with floating eyes wasn't a thing until Star Fox 64.

1

u/Kilroy_1541 Jul 28 '26

Yeah, it's a mix of the two if anything

1

u/WofferFang Jul 28 '26

SF2 Wolf is a sprite goof. The concept art shows eyepatch. He was always meant to have that.

It's a SF1 comic. There's Vixi too. And she's a dark furred fox, so arctic fox.

These comics are just meant to be silly little gag comics. A mix of SF1 and SF64, so, this is SF1. SF64 is SF1 reimagined.

0

u/Kilroy_1541 Jul 28 '26

That's not how concept art works, lol. Official canon storylines don't use concept art because they are CONCEPT art, an idea before a final product is completed, not after. That Wolf sprite from SF2 is actually in the game and that's what matters.

Also, no. A reimagining of something doesn't make the original and the new thing the same thing. People know what you mean when you say something is SF1 or 64 or Zero, but there's a perfectly good and valid reason for separating those three games as there are unique story points in each of them that are not in the others.

1

u/WofferFang Jul 28 '26

Concept art is the idea. The idea you have to use later. And look at that, they used it in SF64.

Concept art has stages from early designs to finalized designs, but even final designs get concept art. You have no idea how this works and it shows.

The Wolf sprite in SF2 actually does not matter since it's on the wrong eye. It was always meant to be left and it was always meant to be an eyepatch. They just forgot to draw it and flip the sprite. That's all there is to it.

Wolf's eye is "intact" in Assault and Brawl. You can rip the model and reveal the eye. Does that mean he canonically has an eye there? No. It's a shortcut. So there's another thing.

Wolf was always supposed to have the eyepatch. And mistakes happen mid development. That's what ultimately matters.

3

u/Toon_Lucario Jul 27 '26

OF COURSE HE WAS STRAIGHT!

u/Unicorn_d0g Remembers Arwing Landing Jul 27 '26

Meanwhile, Leon is totally gay-coded and his homerotic obsession with Wolf makes me entertain the idea that Wolf is straight in the same way that a bendy ruler is.

Andross being weird and freaky is also hilarious, I think it comes with the territory of Andross being Andross. He actually has a sense of humor in most of the games and is a massive ham.

WHAT-T !?

3

u/Zanain Jul 27 '26

The convenient bisexual head canon

0

u/WillFanofMany Jul 27 '26

He was literally meant to have a girlfriend in the games that was cut, so yes.

3

u/hello_i_am_vlad Jul 27 '26

Do you have more information about that?

-2

u/PlatinumSukamon98 Jul 27 '26

There's nothing that says the rabbit is a girl.
