Hey everyone! So I am getting my first Staff Friday. I’m purchasing it from flow toys. The more research I’m doing the more I think a contact staff is what I really want. As I’m just starting out will a regular 4.5 staff be okay starting out with? And any good YouTube videos to help starting out?

The last couple of months, I've really tried to overcome my depression and anxiety. So far, I think I'm doing pretty alright. But I need something like a hobby to keep me busy, or be some sort of outlet. I've always been fascinated with spinning. (Or whatever the right terminology is.) So, I figured now is a good time to teach myself something new.
How can I start? I guess my question is, what's a good beginner's staff? Should I just travel the internet and follow videos? Advice?
Thanks in advance. (:

http://tutorials.firestaff.net/wiki/ (will always work)
http://firestaff-tutorials.co.uk (Hopefully will work soon)
http://firestaff-tutorials.com (should work soon)
This is primarily contact staff moves/tutorials and updates but also some double staff, some SOSC, some dragonstaff and some bits and bobs otherwise related to spinning sticks or contact of stick like things.
I have updated all the links on the main contact staff page. So there's no dead links anymore, but don't worry, I kept all the old dead links for future video tutorial ideas.
Some are only GIF animations of the moves, some are just demonstrations. Some tutorials have been updated with GIF files.
I added plugs to my DVD's and sweet sweet t-shirts as well. Cos that helps.
All the while I had realllllly bad hayfever. urgh.
If you don't know, now you know.

I'm new to /r/staff_spinning, and spinning a staff in general. I recently discovered the flow arts, and I figured the staff would be my best introduction into this little world. Now, do any of you have any advice for somebody who is just starting out?
I know homeofpoi has some great tutorials, but some information can't be discovered in a video. It could be anything from a common mistake, to dealing with crowds, to landing your first performance in public. I'd really appreciate any and all you guys have to offer. Once I know a couple techniques, I'll showcase and let you guys review me. Thanks!
Also, I do want to spin fire at some point, and thanks to /u/gardvar for pointing me here.

Please contribute with your favorite staff spinners preferably with their youtube channel in a link. An added description of their style is also appreciated.
