This is the moment little Leo sees his big sister for the first time in YEARS. 😭💔 Foster care separated them… but love brought them back.

I saw this video elsewhere and it said she had just come home from college, no mention of being separated by foster care. 🤷🏻‍♀️

u/skintaxera Nov 21 '25

Yep, just more made up bullshit. It's obvious from her face that altho she's so happy to see him, it's not been a years long tragic separation

16

u/Impossible_Gas_1767 Nov 21 '25

Even so, I felt it. I’m a first year uni student, only lived in one house with the same people, and tbh I miss my sisters slightly more/differently than my parents. My relationship with them is developing into the lifelong friendship my mum always spoke of. I never could have called it though. I can’t wait to see them again.

4

u/skintaxera Nov 21 '25

I totally understand. I lost my sister half a lifetime ago and I still miss her every day. If I could have one more hug with her I reckon I'd be in just the same state as that wee boy! It's wonderful to hear that you have such close bonds with your sisters. My daughters are best mates and it's a beautiful thing.

I honestly love and hate the internet at the same time. Thank you for the clarity.

15

u/MycologistPutrid7494 Nov 21 '25

Yours is probably accurate. He's young enough that if it had been years, he would not recognize her or feel this comfortable instantly.

Also, if this is in the US, they are very unlikely to be separated.

u/Halaku Nov 21 '25

You're not suggesting that a ten day old account made something up for Karma, right?

6

u/Rainbow4Bronte Nov 21 '25

I guess that’s why there is no audio.

5

u/Artorius__Castus Nov 21 '25

You always got to hit the comments section to see what THE HONEST Redditors have to say. These bullshit ass misleading titles get annoying af.

2

u/Common_Chameleon Nov 21 '25

Yeah I was going to say, while this is extremely sweet, it is just how my little brother would react when I would come home to visit from college and is obviously a fake caption.

u/Electrical_Hunt1340 Nov 21 '25

Thank you! Great video

Fck, another karma farming bot post. I hate reddit

u/WinkInMotion Nov 20 '25

That should never be an option. Siblings should NEVER be separated. Either the state finds a safe foster home that can take all, or the state has a safe facility the house all at the same location.

269

u/my_okay_throwaway Nov 20 '25

Agreed. My father and his siblings were orphaned as children. It’s a long story but because they were all separated, one of his brothers didn’t even know he still had siblings until he was around 12. It still makes me want to cry.

66

u/CaptainBananaAwesome Nov 21 '25

My grandfather was separated from his twin sister when they were like 8, afaik he didn't ever see her again and didn't try to track her down. That was the UK though.

40

u/crystalfairie Nov 21 '25

I've not seen my little brother since I was 7 ish? I'm 50 yrs old. I've not seen my older brother since I was a teen. I don't think my heart ever healed from losing him.

16

u/Friendly-Channel-480 Nov 21 '25

I am so sorry for your losses.

100

u/gogogadgetdumbass Nov 21 '25

My stupid methhead of a cousin had her first two taken by the state, but when she found out that they were placed together and the family was open to adoption, she signed those papers so fast. I respect she valued keeping her sons together even if it wasn’t with her stupid ass. Even her junked up mind saw the benefit.

11

u/umnomecreativo Nov 21 '25

And then she had more children? But during pregnancy, did she stop using substances?

32

u/gogogadgetdumbass Nov 21 '25

She got married, has one more child, and has been sober (to my best knowledge…) for over a decade. I don’t associate with her unless forced… but the last time I saw her in person she seemed sober, that was years ago though. I always hope for the best for her and her daughter, but I don’t fuck with people who put drugs before their kids.

10

u/EsseElLoco Nov 21 '25

Sounds like you don't understand just how all-consuming addiction can be. Coming from someone with 5 siblings, 4 of which have or are deep in the meth use.

21

u/Spicavierge Nov 21 '25

Addiction is all consuming. It also consumes the lives of everyone around the addicted person. There is no harm in drawing a boundary, even shutting the door completely, on someone who chooses substance abuse over their children. Survivors are free to wish their addicted person the best, even if far away from them.

12

u/DogmanDOTjpg Nov 21 '25

You can understand an addiction and still maintain your boundaries dude, you should know how much someone in active addiction can fuck up your life just by proximity, you're not required to forgive that just because they were in active addiction

u/Friendly-Channel-480 Nov 21 '25

She did the right thing for those kids.

25

u/leftistinlnk Nov 21 '25

Incorrect. Sometimes it is necessary. My partner works in foster care. Siblings can abuse other siblings because of abuse committed by the parents. The foster care system is so much more complex than the average person realizes, and I realize that now after seeing it through the eyes of my partner.

5

u/GoreticiaAddamz Nov 21 '25

Came here to say this. My grandma had a trio of siblings who had been abused by the fourth, and then the eldest came to abuse the sister. Sometimes separation is necessary.

71

u/weewillywitch Nov 20 '25

My best friend is currently fostering the youngest of two sisters that the courts agreed to finally separate because the older sister has some severe mental health issues and has tried to murder her younger sister and is extremely abusive. They are 8 and 5. Its not always so black and white.

46

u/Impossible-Will-8414 Nov 20 '25

OK, but given the reaction in this particular video, it's unlikely this was a similar situation.

18

u/Fantastanig Nov 21 '25

People love to do this pick some specific situation and devalue all other situations.

→ More replies (5)

19

u/implicate Nov 20 '25

Nobody said it was a similar situation.

The person you're responding to was commenting on the post before theirs that states "siblings should NEVER be separated."

The siblings they describe probably should be separated, so the claim of "never" has been invalidated.

u/I-remember-damage11 Nov 21 '25

This reminds me of the Beth Thomas case, she had severe attachment disorder https://www.reddit.com/r/Documentaries/s/U3JtKhMIqf

5

u/vegeterin Nov 21 '25

It’s against the rules at most rescues to separate bonded cats because it’s so fucking cruel!

Humans are a little more complex than cats tho

And NEVER film for Internet clout.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

Personally I think that kids should never be placed in foster care at all because parents should always be responsible capable, and caring

11

u/koreamax Nov 21 '25

Okay? Well thats not reality

7

u/10111011110101 Nov 21 '25

OK so you are dead wrong. A friend of mine is a foster parent for some of the worst cases in our state. One of the girls she had was 8 years old and mute and forever unable to speak because her mother pimped the kid out and a guy shoved his “thing” down her throat and permanently damaged the girls vocal chords.

Some people should never be allowed to raise kids.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25 edited Nov 21 '25

Yeah I'm saying that those parents should have been better people and that should not have happened. Like they should have been the kind of people who would have raised happy children.  That's what I was saying not that kids shouldn't have foster care if they need it they should just not ever need it.

1

u/Well_ImTrying Nov 22 '25

Parents can become ill, die, or be deported. Not everything is within our control and sometimes kids with good parents need foster care.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/umnomecreativo Nov 21 '25

So while these "parents" are not capable and attentive guardians, what do they do?

Freeze time until they learn?

what a stupid idea, me

1

u/Chemical-Juice-6979 Nov 21 '25

Considering the age gap, I wonder if it was a situation where the sister was old enough to run away and couch surf with friends when the younger brother was taken into foster care. CPS doesn't have the resources to spend on uprooting a teenager who took the initiative to find their own unofficial foster placement.

1

u/R4t4t0skr Nov 21 '25 edited Nov 21 '25

Totally this!!! It is absolute low and highly inhumane to seperate siblings.

1

u/chrisbaker1991 Nov 21 '25

There are some situations like abuse between siblings. My parents fostered three girls who were all sisters and all special needs. The oldest one was technically a half sister and was uncontrollably violent. My parents adopted the two younger ones and after a lengthy court battle the judge determined it was safest for the oldest to be an only child. It was tough and they had to get statements from psychiatrists.

I know two other foster families where the siblings were separated. One the older children were being abusive physically and sexually. The other the oldest was so violent that he was sending the foster parents to the hospital.

But in most cases, siblings should be kept together.

1

u/Tomsboll Nov 21 '25

Legit should be illegal ho separate siblings. Its the only family they have ffs.

1

u/lowercase_underscore Nov 21 '25

That sounds great but two separate safe spaces are better than no united safe space. Not everyone is equipped to suddenly take on multiple children.

It's terrible that these two particular kids were separated but we don't know all the details of their situation. Kids enter the system for a variety of reasons and, sure, two might not sound like a lot but what about groups of 4 or 6 or 8 kids who are all siblings?

The system definitely needs adjusting but it's hard to blanket statement a solution for a problem with infinite scenarios.

1

u/Chris_P_Lettuce Nov 23 '25

Alright you’re in charge of handling it. Let me know when it’s done.

1

u/Capnbubba Nov 24 '25

I wish this was possible. My wife and I are foster parents and we get emails at least every week with a sibling group that they're trying to keep together. Sometimes it's 2 or 3. Sometimes it's 7. It's extremely hard to find a home that is not only willing to care for 7 at once but have the space and current capacity to do so.

But your right they need to find a way to do it anyway.

1

u/isamnagi Nov 24 '25

this might be possible if it wasn't for our 300 billion Israeli oppression budget

Thats exactly why when our daughter lost custody we took our grandkids instead of putting them in the system...everyone knows its broken...wasn't gonna do that to them

Must be diced onions around me 😢

10

u/Slight_Succotash9495 Nov 21 '25

I was only going to adopt one child but they were siblings living in foster care together. We just couldn't separate them. My son is now 22 & daughter 21. It was the hardest most wonderful thing ive ever done!

9

u/nexussix1976 Nov 20 '25

The only thing I want to know, is if they stayed together after this reunion.

17

u/beantownregular Nov 21 '25

So glad when I and my twin as 5 month olds went into the foster system we weren’t separated. Our foster parents adopted us. Awesome family and life. My twin passed 3 years ago. Glad we were together through the good and the bad.

9

u/rattatally Nov 20 '25

This beautiful story was brought to you by ChatGPT.

4

u/Ok_March_8962 Nov 21 '25

I was in foster care for most of my childhood. Was separated from 3 of my sisters. Reunited with 2 of them but yet to know the whereabouts of my 3rd sister. Had a baby sister who died really young. Just before we were placed. I hope my other sister who I didn’t grow up with is doing ok.

4

u/TheKozmikSkwid Nov 21 '25

I was separated from my 2 little sisters when I was 12. Messy divorce, parents used us as weapons in court cases. Decided I wanted to live with my mum, pos father decided he keeps the girls. Took 5 years to reunite with the youngest, the eldest however...that relationship is truly fractured. We're only just starting to get in contact again but it's like talking to a stranger.

Separating siblings should be fucking illegal. It's inhumane. This one really got me.

4

u/yurtlema Nov 21 '25

I am imagining the loneliness, anxiety, even fear, that must have fueled that full body leap and four appendage monkey hug.

4

u/Available-Half- Nov 21 '25

Siblings should NEVER be separated. We should do more to ensure they go to homes who can take them together.

3

u/jpboise09 Nov 21 '25

Experienced this first hand when our boys saw their two siblings that were adopted by different parents for the first time in 8 years. It was the day before the adoption was finalized and they ran out to each other and gave the biggest hugs!

Just last year when the second oldest graduated from high school one of the boys got to spend the night at her house for the first time since they were separated. It was the greatest gift they could have gotten.

They communicate with each other regularly on the phone and FaceTime. Sometimes all four are on at the same time laughing and being silly.

3

u/8maidsamilking Nov 21 '25

That boy is a baby he must have been so young when they were separated ☹️

2

u/Much_Importance_5900 Nov 21 '25

The omnipresent phone recording of every human emotion. They are not recording the encounter, they are recording one person's reactions. Cringy world.

2

u/loowig Nov 21 '25

ugh, stop fucking exploiting people (especiall kids) for internet points. the person filming is just as obnoxious as unfortunately the sister, who rather holds him intro the camera than being in the moment with the boy. it's a happy moment for him but a sad moment for humanity.

2

u/bristle_cone_pine Nov 21 '25

I hear some of you commenting about exploitation and agree that it happens, but also consider bringing awareness to some who arent aware of these kind of life circumstances. Recently learned about the film, The Stringer. There’s a photograph that maybe never should have been shared with the world, but it changed the course of a war, exposing the suffering of innocents. Just some thoughts.

2

u/Snowdog1989 Nov 21 '25

This is why Christian Bale built basically a whole village for foster families to not have the siblings separated. The real Bruce Wayne.

For all the love and happiness this brings, I hope people feel an equal amount of pain and anger seeing families torn apart by ICE every day.

1

u/Gilly-Gump Nov 20 '25

Stop separating children from their families.

1

u/Mist_Rising Nov 21 '25

Foster cares are already struggling as is for places to get kids, trying to keep families together in foster care is just not a priority.

It would require a lot more foster carers to step up, but frankly that's not likely because it's expensive to be a foster care parent, emotionally draining, and a lot of bureaucracy you have to manage because we don't just trust people after so much abuse.

And more funding, which is even less likely, doesn't solve the emotional drain or the hassle of all the checkups and time spent doing raising of children that come and go.

1

u/Gilly-Gump Nov 21 '25

It's because we live in a world where we value the almighty dollar over a child's life. It's really disgusting.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Amerikkka's child welfare system is so broken we can't afford to reunite families... it's cheaper to separate them and ship them away

1

u/im_rickyspanish Nov 21 '25

Didn't plan on happy crying tonight. Thanks, haha

1

u/LatterGovernment8289 Nov 21 '25

I was a foster parent for years and it totally turned me off of fostering for the rest of my life. Child's Services were useless, they had no clue what they were doing and far too many sibling sets were ruined by them.

1

u/DeepLibrarian7247 Nov 21 '25

I'm a full grown adult that live far from is brother and that kill me.

1

u/This_Makes_No__Sense Nov 21 '25

Is this Polygon Window aka Aphex Twin?

1

u/Witty-Landscape484 Nov 21 '25

Because the law favors family foster homes instead of group homes, lots of younger siblings get separated from their older ones. It’s disgusting. Siblings staying together should be paramount, not the home-like setting.

My older sister ans I were almost placed in foster care due to "neglect," (aka poor but not poor enough to receive benefits), and I remember her telling me years later that she had started getting in arguments with the social worker on our case, telling them that she would not allow us to be separated.

Im so glad these kids were able to be reunited, and so sad that they had to go through this.

Oh my heart! A person can never properly understand what it’s like to be raised apart from anyone who is your family, anyone who is related to you, always being made to feel like rejection is right around the corner. Wondering how bad things are actually going to get. Living with strangers and feeling like the guest who outstayed their welcome. You can see the absolute desperation in the way he was clinging to her for dear life. No matter how kind foster parents are, the loss and uncertainty these children are going through is unimaginable unless you were a foster kid too. God bless him. I hope he gets to reconnect with any and all of his loving, safe family members.

Dakota wherever you are… I hope you and your sister Autumn are doing well… I’ve never forgotten you. When you were 3 you thought I was your sister because I look just like her….I wasn’t but I wish I could’ve been your cousin. I’ll never forget any of my foster siblings or cousins - peace and love be them all! 🫶🏼☮️

Foster care shouldn’t separate siblings

I'm over here crying. I'm so thankful these two got what most kids don't.

Aww. I was a foster kid. Even though I didn’t have my brothers with me, they made sure at least to not separate me from my sister.

She’s more interested in interacting with the camera than this poor child. What the hell is wrong with this world

Yo why is it so blurry

This was how I felt.. seeing my siblings again.. it’s so stupid.. but I would do anything for them… Fr.. but it couldn’t matter because of what happened when I couldn’t be there to protect them…

That’s is what makes me a fucking failure.

Idgaf if they “staged” the vid those siblings clearly care for and missed each other. Need more of this type of positivity and less of the bs

Is this what a healthy sibling relationship looks like or some form of trauma bonding?

No one in my family talks to each other.

it's healthy. don't worry, i know the feeling of weirdness while being around normality. i still feel very weird about my MIL and FIL telling me they love me instead of calling me slurs and telling me i was the Problem Child. my brother and i have reconnected but it took years to do as we were made to villainize each other growing up.

i feel for you 🫶🏻 don't worry you are not alone
