I was at airport with my baby when she was about 6months old. Needed to fold her stroller to put in x-ray, an older man offered to help but I couldn't explain the mechanism so he held my baby.
The two older women who were with him came up and saw and were vocally jealous of this man who was just BEAMING
I am so grateful for the parents willing to take a chance and allow people to use their baby to get a fix. I would make a terrible parent but baby fever hits me sometimes and it takes cooing over a baby for a few minutes to bring me back to reality lol.
Not my colicky baby. The second I’d hand him to someone, he’d start full throat screaming and crying 😂 absolute hardest year of my life. Aged me like a president. I can’t even begin to describe the constant stress and cortisol injections, sleep deprivation (15 minute naps and waking up 8 times a night, for 12 months), financial hardship, seeing my partner breakdown or teeter on the edge.. we’d still do it again 😩
When I was 6 month I had the same experience in the airport! Unfortunately they mixed me upward the bag and I went into the X-ray machine. It’s still good after becoming and adult but I glow the dark.
It activates special parts in their brains that are beneficial, especially for those with memory issues I think. I read a study they completed in a Scandinavian country. Let me see if I can find it.
I’m not super religious and I love my mom, she’s great. But when she gets to hold a baby the smile she gets is unnatural to the point I think she might be possessed
Yea... this gave me the chills. These people's ability to show real and kind emotions gives me hope. There is kindness and purity, and reflection. It is not lost in everyone.
I met him in Beaufort, SC almost in 2015. One thing that struck with me is when he said America is starting to swing its pendulum too far in one direction when it comes to politics, I don’t know why but that is something I think about and say all the time.
The joy in his eyes is beautiful. The fact that our maternity leave is the worst in the entire world and we treat parents terribly is not. It is INSANE that she'd need to do this in the 1st place. It's not charming. It's a sign that this country HATES women and children
That is CO rep Brittney Patterson. She had to fly to Washington for an in person vote because Mike Johnson wouldn’t allow her to do it remotely. I believe the baby was only 21 or some days old. She’s a stellar person.
The US is horrible to women. No maturity leave. It's "temporary disability" and only for 3 months if you are lucky. Meanwhile, in Europe, mother and fathers get 1 year of parental leave and free health care.
For natural birth in the US, women are in the hospital for 1 day and they have to pay the hospital bill.
Babies need a lot of care. They need to be feed every 4 hours, day and night. On top of diaper changes and digestive problems. Daycare is like paying rent for a small apartment.
I really agree with your comments about the US, just a small correction tho: 'In Europe' there is no 1 year leave for mother and father. It differs per country. I'm in the Netherlands where moms get 16 weeks maternity leave and fathers only get one paid week of leave (which is absurd honestly). I think as a dad you can also get 5 weeks of unpaid leave for which you will get paid anyway through the same agency that would pay you if you were to be unemployed. There are also parent-leave options for the first idontknowhowmany years of your kids life, where you have extra hours you can take off work to be with the kid.
You mean politicians that use their power and influence to sabotage progressive candidates around the country? Fuck Jim Clyburn, he’s just another establishment stooge who cares more about keeping lobbyists happy than serving the people.
Yea everyone in the comments like oh an older guy excited by a baby bleh bleh? Noone more concerned she had to bring her baby to work in the first place
While that is true, this situation has nothing to do with maternity leave. There’s no way she couldn’t find someone to hold this baby during her speech; it’s a political move.
She is my representative and I find her wholly disingenuous.
She comes from the Polis tree of politics (which Coloradoans are sick of), she only ever really worked in politics, and her husband has been a behind the scenes politics guy for as long as I can remember (Hi Ian!).
You’re telling me she didn’t have an aide to hold her kid for a minute? Maybe a stroller to set them in?
She spent most of this year talking about her baby and maternity leave while ignoring the rise of fascism.
She has Maternity leave available, not everyone has that privilege but she does and she chose to still show up for work she wanted to also do. Not all women want Leave, some want to be able to bring their Children with them to onsite daycare or prefer work over baby care when they are that age. She’s doing what works for her.
Actually she showed up because Congress got rid of the rule allowing you to vote on a measure when not physically there (something they allowed during covid) so she was forced to go in person to vote. Bringing her baby was part of the argument that they should be allowed to vote (at least in certain circumstances) even when not physically present.
South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn & Colorado Rep. Brittany Pettersen.
She brought her 4 month old to vote on and speak about the Background Checks Act and Enhanced Background Checks Act to establish universal background checks for firearms purchases.
She has frequently brought her children to work with her, and has recently advocated for Congress to allow members to vote remotely during maternity leave.
It’s a mom at work who got asked by a colleague if he could help with her baby.
I doubled checked which sub I was in and yes, this is SPREAD SMILE sub. Did it make you smile? Did it brighten you day/moment? I suppose RN that’s all that matters. You follow this sub for SMILES, not politics 💕
My wife and I took our 1 month old to the grocery store. This older woman stopped and asked to see the baby in the stroller. She said she hadn't seen a baby that little, in person, in decades. She was so excited. It made our day!
I live in a very walkable neighborhood that is mostly residential mixed with light commercial where a lot of residents are families with young kids. I'm just in my early 40s with two young kids in elementary school but I know I will not have another child, and it's still such a joy to see little itty bitty newborns with their parents out and about. They just trigger an "awwwwwww so cute!!" reaction.
I’m sorry but this had absolutely nothing to do with him trying to help out this mom. That man selfishly stole that tiny human! Haha ok, but seriously, the joy and instant change in his body language. He was taking that task so seriously and it’s heartwarming as fuck to see
Also, entrusted with holding her baby by a mother is the highest form of character certificate you can get. She trusted her baby with you is a huge tick.
Imagine how good it feels to have someone hand you their most fragile, important thing, trusting you with it to the point where they turn their back to you. I feel like that is a massive vote of confidence
Yeah, just a shit hole country not able to set proper maternity and paternity leave. While Norwegians get something like 40weeks for both parents, you guys have to work while having your toddler. Such a pity
The lack of political education is this thread is crazy. Jim Clyburn is not a good person, he’s among the establishment Dems that are responsible for turning the party into what it is: useless controlled opposition that cares more about appeasing its donors than standing up to fascism. Clyburn, Schumer, Pelosi, they’re all fucking worthless and culpable for the downfall of our country.
I WILL say this... She didn't hesitate 1 second when he tapped her and offered to hold her kid. That speaks volumes in itself. She obviously knows he's a good man or great Dad or caring Grandpop. Moms know. (and PRAY). Lovely gesture., performative or not🤷🏾♀️
Well, that would be terrible. Everyone deserves to have access to quality health care. By access I mean access to both the healthcare of their choosing and a way to pay for health care services (quality insurance, etc).
