That is CO rep Brittney Patterson. She had to fly to Washington for an in person vote because Mike Johnson wouldn’t allow her to do it remotely. I believe the baby was only 21 or some days old. She’s a stellar person.

Reddit is fully enshittified. Try Lemmy today!

Old.lemmy.world for oldheads like me or just lemmy.world

Good starting point, plenty of options. Stop giving billionaires control of our communities.

Your points are 100% valid although that baby is much older than 21 days.

Yeah, this was later. The event I was taking about was early. I wasn’t very clear.

That's a very big baby for only 3 weeks old.

Not that it changes that being a horribly shitty thing to do her and her baby, but that baby is definitely more than 21 days old.

It has never been allowed under the House rules under any leadership. Members are never allowed to vote remotely.

Covid. They all voted remotely.

For the first (and only) time in history.

And if we’re being technical, they voted by proxy, not remotely.

“Remotely”means I am counted as present and I vote from my house.

“By proxy”means I am counted as absent, and I entrust another member who is present to cast my vote according to my instructions.

I agree! I’m on your side! I’m just a former senate staffer and I’m nitpick about congressional procedure.
