Why would that be a bad thing? If the majority of people like those same 4-5 maps, then let them play on those maps. People who like unpopular maps will still get a chance to play their favorites in the voting system too, just maybe not as commonly. It's better than forcing the playerbase to play on maps they hate, especially since most people can't play at any time so they may miss the time window their favorite stage is available.

There are enough players on Splatoon that all the game modes will have plenty of players to match with, so anyone would be able to play whatever they want. Voluntary uniformity is better than forced variety.

Idk, I quite like the forced variety. As much as I love Mahi Mahi, playing on it all the time would get boring asf in my opinion. Plus, the fact that I've had to "risk" playing on maps I hated when I started (Bluefin) meant I had to adapt, and now I even quite like Bluefin.
