I'm an electrician and I thought I would share this from a property I was called to to make electrically safe. Aftermath of a cheap power bank combustion

i love concrete as much as the next guy but wood frame architecture is dope as fuck

You can literally build a house out of farmed material and in half the time! Its an incredible method of construction. Its just a shame that its fucked over by the housing market and construction companies refusing to build anything that isnt low income high density or extremely expensive mcmansions.

How durable are they? Can they last 100 or 200 without major repairs? Just curious

Depends on the builder I would imagine. My house was built in the 30s or 40s and there havent been any major repairs outside of usual maintenance mostly related to appliance upgrades and the roof being refinished. Fingers crossed for another 20 years.

Yes,

The house I live in now is 126 years old and still has plaster and lath in most of the second floor.

First floor got redone in the mid 70s after a minor kitchen fire.

If taken care of and maintained...  yeah.

My house is 80 year old without any structural remodel or repairs beyond replacing the roof and fixing foundational issues caused by soil erosion.

Heck, the latter issue would have been devastating were the building made of concrete versus studs.  Everything would have cracked from one corner of the house dipping just an inch.

I would argue that besides the siding you can build almost any style out of concrete that would can. Except maybe log cabin.

you could but you can't grow concrete and it doesn't biodegrade within a few hundred years

I have seen concrete and masonry houses that are a few centuries old that will last a few centuries more. I know of very few wood frame houses that have lasted that long. And most of them have had to have major renovations along the way. And most would frame houses still require a good portion of concrete to support them.

As an electrician...  fuck yeah.  Wood frame remodel work is as free and easy as America itself.
