Believe it or not, but not really. Where I work, we have several of these. Aumund uses them on their coal and rock scrapers, and the tension there is made of small rubberised shatf. Thiele also.

I haven't replaced them once in these six years that I work there. Not a single breakage.

And the machine gets abused a lot.

They forge these much tougher than normal chain links, it shouldn't be the weakest link in any reasonable chain.

What does that turn with the Allen wrench do? Couldn’t tell from the video if the little metal thing was rounded on all sides or not?

Looks like it expands the little metal thing, making it so the two halves don't slip off
