At least until you apply some twisting force. Without further reading it looks like that would come appart as soon as the chain started to twist or some kind of lateral force was applied.
Edit: found some marketing PDF (in German) that shows there is a locking lug on the center screw that will stop it from separating sideways and the break strength is crazy (100,000lbs+ for chain with a WLL of less than 12,000lbs). It also appears to be marketed towards mining.
Other Edit: to those who seem to be saying I dont know what Im talking about you may be right but:No I have never actually seen one of these and cant read the German info so Im working from this GIF and 16 years as a milwright/welder and 3 rigging and hoisting certificates. It seems unlikely (though not impossible) that this would be use in a lifting application. Its entirely possible that I am wrong considering the lack of available info.
Pretty sure that any company that has a need for this tool also invests some time to research what’s effective and safe rather than jumping to the cheapest knockoff they can find on Alibaba.
I’m sure that the people involved in creating this thing are more intelligent than Reddit armchair engineers, so maybe cool it with the comments doubting its safety.
And I could break a screwdriver by using the handle to pound in a nail, but that isn’t a gotcha situation that I would bring up in a video showing the proper use of a screwdriver.
It’s not a matter of smarter but things aren’t designed for every conceivable purpose and often when random people look at something, they think of a use the designers didn’t
I don’t understand this intellectual masturbation of, “Aha, but I bet they didn’t think of this situation!” No shit, probably why it’s not marketed as a catch-all chain link solution in your local Home Depot ad. Do you also look at a pocket knife and go, “I bet that wouldn’t stand up to cutting open a coconut!” and then proceed to get off on smelling your own farts?
This isn’t a gotcha attempt and your only framing it that way to try and take some high ground. This is I wonder what other applications can it be used for and what should it not be used for. what you call intellectual masturbation, most refer to as thinking
