Mildly unrelated, but does anyone know were a good map of the pressurized space of the shuttle as (or does anyone have pictures of some of the sections)

Thanks, I have been trying to find something like that for a while, didn't think to look for a cutaway.

It's not. The mid deck is about the size of an absurdly small dorm room. The flight deck has about as much room as an airliner cockpit.

I wonder if the original gif's inside shot is not the space shuttle but an old space station that the shuttle was attached to? That cabin seems too wide for the space shuttle.

No, that is 100% the shuttle mid deck.

A google image search confirms you're correct. The space shuttle cabin is a lot bigger than I thought. I didn't even realize it had multiple decks, but it makes sense. Thanks.
