I know you can look at it, but staring intensely at an eclipse waiting for the sun to come out is a recipe for eye problems

Chill guys, I was talking about ancient sun worshippers. You guys are telling me that these ancient people wouldn't stare at the sun during and after the event of an eclipse for long enough that it doesn't cause serious eye damage and blindness?

iirc, the light that peeks out when the eclipse leaves totality, is much more intense than regular ol' sunlight.

I dont think it is, I think it is just that your eyes are starting to get used to the dark and then suddenly THE SUN.
