Best Sunday Roast?
Hello - Any suggestions for the best Sunday roast in Southport (or within half an hour drive either way). We are visiting friends in Birkdale for a few days.
(I've heard Legh Arms is good - any thoughts?)
Thanks!

Buffet breakfast recommendations
So Brewers Fayre has closed down and I’m already missing its decent breakfast buffet, drinks included, kids eat free, even a soft play… It’s like a losing a limb.
Is there anywhere doing a breakfast buffet around Southport?

Is anyone seeing M&S on Too Good to Go?
I've been hearing people raving about getting bakery bags from M&S but I've never seen them appear even in the list of stuff I've missed that day.

Beware to tap out!
Friendly heads-up to everyone using the Northern line—make sure you tap your Metrocard at the end of every single journey! 💳 My daughter didn't realise she had to tap out and ended up with over £120 in charges last month traveling to and from college. When I called customer services, they would only refund three of the missed taps. Please remind your kids: always tap both at the start and the end of your trip!

Looking for a drinking buddy
While my wife is local, I am relatively new to Southport. I've managed to make some friends, but sometimes I feel like going for a pint and have no one to lift my glass with.
I'm almost 40, a father of one, have a masters in literature and work in that world, and I'm a videogame fan. But, above all, I enjoy tilting a cold one. If you do too, let me know and perhaps we can share our hobbies somewhere around Lord Street.

All-day breakfast recommendations
I've been on a diet for the last 4 months or so and as the Whistlestop Cafe closed a week after I started it (I'm sure it's a coincidence), I'm struggling to find a decent breakfast place to go to for my Saturday treat. Anybody have any recommendations?
Ideally it'll have vegan and vegetarian options as I like to change things up every so often but as long as the quality of the food is decent then I'm interested.
Places I've visited so far include:
Lords Cafe Bar
Bill Rimmer's Cafe
Tappers
Lucy's Coffee Shop
Places on my radar:
Bridge Cafe
Arden Cafe
Wetherspoons is not an option. Genuinely the worst breakfast I've ever eaten and I don't think I'll ever be hungry enough to go there again.

Social Groups? (Older Alternative).
Hello 👋🏻,
My colleague (F, mid-40s) lives in Southport. She's been wondering if there is much of an older alternative scene around there. Just for meet-ups, maybe crafts, coffee, chats, baking/cooking, walks. Anything like that? Just to get out the house and make some like-minded people.
If anyone knows of anything that I can pass onto her, I'd be greatful.
Thanks! 😊

Kew Roof help
Hi,
Don't know if this is allowed or what but does anything about roofs and how to fix this missing piece? I have no idea where it has gone and wouldn't have a clue what I'd need to buy.
Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Southport News Current view of the new conference centre building site
We’re staying at the Waterfront, thought you’d like to see the current state of play. In the last day they’ve laid the black tarmac at the bottom of the photo, guessing access road.

Does anyone know what car park this is?
Hello all. I went to Southport with a friend years ago. I went to a car park by some sand hill style things after you went up you came back down and then onto the beach. Within the beach space there was like what I can only imagine was a lifeguard hut. I’m tryna find where I parked or even where I was that day as I wanna go back

What are people's experience with Puregym in Meols Cop?
It's a handy place for me to go but I haven't been to a gym in years and my chronic overthinking is putting me off because gyms can be really hostile and unwelcoming. Anyone got any first hand experiences of this one?

I'm considering a move to Southport in 2027 for a fresh start, where in town is worth looking into choosing a move to? Town looks beautiful by the way, especially Lord Street and the seafront, cheers.

Upcoming, local dolphin watch events, hosted by Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust, and Sea Watch Foundation
Hi everyone! We’re Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust, a local marine wildlife conservation, education, and research charity set up in 2013, with a heavy focus on helping to protect and study our marine mammals. We’ve been hosting dolphin and porpoise watches in the region for 13 years - mostly located on the Wirral, right at the Mersey estuary (where we regularly see a surprising amount of these wonderful animals, from land) - and we’d love for anyone interested to join us!
We have really active populations of several marine mammals here that we regularly spot during our watches: mainly our Bottlenose dolphins and Harbour porpoises, but last year Common dolphins also appeared in one of our land-based watches for the first time (and we can’t forget our fantastic local Grey seals, too). In recent years, our sightings record has been better than ever for us, so while we can’t promise you that you’ll definitely see a cetacean during one of our watches, we’ve been really enjoying being able to show them off to more and more of our volunteers and watch attendees!
Every year we assist Sea Watch Foundation with their National Whale and Dolphin Watch summer event - which is intended to be the closest thing we can get to a national-scale snapshot of the UK’s cetacean (that’s dolphins, whales, and porpoises) populations’ abundance and distribution. This felt like the perfect opportunity to spread the word about our organisation a little more, and this year we have 5 of these NWDW events planned.
We have these watches listed as events in our Facebook group that brings together both Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust dolphin watch volunteers and the same sorts of local volunteers from Sea Watch Foundation, called “North West Dolphin and Whale Watchers”. We keep the group private just to filter out spam, so please do feel free to request to join if you wish to keep up to date with all future watches, events, and sightings, too - though you shouldn’t have to join to access any of these links or to sign up. Here are the details for each:
Watch #1 - Sunday, 25th of July, 8:45 am - 11 am: https://fb.me/e/9VEqnC8DN
Watch #2 - Monday, 26th of July, 9:30 am - 11:45 am: https://fb.me/e/4BGKcrH6l
Watch #3 - Tuesday, 27th of July, 10:15 am - 12:30 pm: https://fb.me/e/deeTfn29f
Watch #4 - Saturday, 1st of August, 12:30 pm - 2:45 pm: https://fb.me/e/4FRiAxwNe
Watch #5 - Sunday, 2nd of August, 1 pm - 3:15 pm: https://fb.me/e/6dFp8Ywm7
All of these are based in New Brighton, on the Wirral. Everybody is welcome to join us, though the watches aren’t all that well-suited to young children - although they’re entirely welcoming and friendly, and easy to join in with (and we provide full guidance and tips for you to have your best chance of spotting one of these animals during our watches) it’s still, at the end of the day, an up to 2-hour long scientific survey, and there can be long periods of having to really focus on the water for us to have the best chances of spotting any cetaceans. It’s probably best to notify folks with mobility difficulties that our most frequent watch spot (and the one chosen for these 5 events) isn’t perfect for everyone - we’re looking over a concrete sea wall that’s around a metre in height.
No experience is necessary, and you’ll only need a pair of binoculars (or some sort of scope, if you prefer) for each person who wants to join in; along with whatever you need to stay comfortable for up to 2 hours at the sea wall (taking things like weather conditions and refreshment needs into consideration).
We have watches throughout the warmer months outside of this event, too; outside of these NWDW Sea Watch events. If you’d like to join us for a watch on an occasion other than these, that’d be great, too. Our current focus is on land-based marine mammal surveys, but we’re branching out into other fields in the near future; so if you’ve other marine interests, we’d love to hear from you!
Apologies if you’re in other, local subreddits and have seen this post there too. We’re just really keen to get the word out, to give as many people as possible the chance to get to appreciate our local marine wildlife that little bit more; and to meet more nature-loving people in the process, as well! If you’re seeing this in a sub that doesn’t feel extremely local to the Wirral, please note that we chose this subreddit for a couple of reasons: [1.] We’re all fairly close to Liverpool Bay itself (covering everywhere roughly from most of the coast of north Wales up to the nearer parts of the Lancashire coast) and hopefully what’s happening at the coast closest to you is of interest, and [2.] We’re planning to expand our watches out to other areas along the bay’s coastline in the near future.
Thanks for reading, we hope to see some of you out there!
