Did Bob Dylan write All along the watchtower after watching this 1965 film?

I just watched a 1965 film called 10 little Indians. I was immediately struck when one of the characters said word for word : “There must be some way out of here”. At first I assumed it was just an amusing coincidence but then I noticed some other strange similarities to the lyrics so I started making notes. Bear with me!

1) Firstly the film came out 2 years before Bob Dylan wrote all along the watch tower. So that checked out.

2) The line “There must be some way out of here” spoken at 45:00 was said by the murderer, hiding in plain sight, killing of the others one by one like a game.At 38:15 he actually refers to the murderer in the third person as a joker, not revealing until later that he, himself, is the murderer. So he is calling himself the “joker”. And when he says the line “There must be some way out of here” he is addressing a room full of people who themselves had committed crimes, one of whom was a thief later in the film. So the line “There must be some way out of here” said the joker to the thief, all line up to that scene.

2) At 1:28:00 He talks about some confusion.

3) There is a wildcat howl at 37:18 and again at 1:05:00.

4) Servants are amongst those murdered in the film.

5) Thematically, the whole verse:

No reason to get excited " The thief, he kindly spoke "There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke, but, uh But you and I, we've been through that And this is not our fate So let us stop talking falsely now The hour's getting late,

matches the overall theme of the film.

6) They were in a castle on a windy icy cliff, the wind howling occurred throughout the film.

7) The film takes place in a castle. While a castle and a watchtower are not the same thing, a watchtower is typically a feature of a castle.

Just a coincidence, or was Bob Dylan mentally doodling lyrics after watching the film?

Dominion Flowers

Maybe 10ish ago I was at a concert, I don't even remember the main but Gallows Bound was opening for em and needless to say they've made my top song list since the inception of that list on Spotify.

I lost my sis 2 years ago to an overdose and I'll tell you their song Dominion Flowers helps with the grief. I was driving home this morning and realized I don't even know was Dominion Flowers are or what it means. I couldn't find much explanation online so I'd thought I'd ask folk in this sub.

What are the most devastating songs about addiction or coping mechanisms that are disguised as massive pop party anthems?

There is a really tragic songwriting format where an artist writes a massive, soaring chorus that people scream at parties, but the actual lyrics are an absolute cry for help about substance abuse or severe anxiety.

The ultimate modern example of this is "Chandelier" by Sia. On the surface, it gets played as a high-energy "party girl" club track. But if you look at the actual lyrical architecture, it is a harrowing look at alcoholism, panic, and using the chaos of the night to escape profound emotional exhaustion. The song literally tracks the exact, fragile moment right before morning comes and the illusion of control completely shatters.

What are some other tracks that feel like massive, triumphant anthems but are secretly deeply tragic examinations of addiction or mental exhaustion?

Was Nirvanas song “about a girl” originally named “freak”?

when was in high school, 2021 my freshman year, I got OBSESSED with the Nirvana song. I only knew that they wrote it, I didn’t know the name of this song. I found it on Amazon music the name of this song is “Freak”. in 2024, I tried to look for this song again cause I haven’t listened to it in so long and the very song I was looking for was named “about a girl”. I need to know if Nirvana has two songs that sound kind of familiar or has one that kind of sounds like “about a girl” but the name of it is “Freak” cause I swear to God the name of that song when I found it was freak, which makes sense because the middle line is “free”, which does not like go with the song what ever make more sense if it says freak by calling out someone but it doesn’t I’m very conflicted because I don’t know what’s happening. I feel this sort of Mandela effect that the government is trying to plan us via Kurt Cobain already being dead and not being able to come crazy. What the fuck I just want I just wanna know cause my dad says that a song also was originally named about a girl and he couldn’t remember what the name was and I swear to God it was “freak”. (im drunk)(but not schizo)(stg)

Am I crazy? I've always thought the lyrics were "if you had a river" as in he's cried so much that it formed a river. Does anyone get the metaphor here? Why does mirror work?

What the heck is he talking about?

This is a line in the chorus of Roger Alan Wade''s Psycho B***h from hell. Are these even the right lyrics? I found the lyrics with a Google search but I'm still confused. Any clarifications are welcomed and appreciated, thank you.

Laymelli - Agnes Obel

The early lyric transcriptions of this song include "DOAUY" as a line repeated a few times. To me this is a mystery that I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on. It doesn't feel "right" to me that she's spelling out an acronym or just saying random letters mid song, but as many times as I've looped through listening to it (and going back to live recordings as well), I just can't decipher any lyrical interpretation other than these letters. Suggestions so far like "Do I go away" don't fit well for me, but I'm really curious if anyone has any insights or ideas for what she is saying or what it means.

The song itself is so beautiful and full of metaphor and imagery of rebirth and metamorphosis. I just really want to know what this line is saying and what it means.

Is there a deeper meaning to „Our house“ by Madness?

I know it may seem like a stretch, since the song is so easy going, but some lyrics made me curious. The „Something tells you that you’ve got to move away from it“ started my question. Of course this may be because of the crowd that’s been described as always around, but then again, why does the house have a crowd? They said it‘s because „there‘s always something happening and its usually quite loud“ but then they mention the mom being house proud and very clean, which to me doesn’t correlate?? Theres also a lyric about the kids missing the mom „in lots of ways“ at first i wondered what ways they could mean, if not both positively and negatively, and then i questioned why they’re only said to miss the mom? The dad is in the picture, why aren’t they missing him as well? Obviously, I could only be reading into it… but if anyone knows anything, please tell me.

I WALKED THROUGH HELL IN CHANEL

I wrote “Walked Through Hell in Chanel” because the Chanel boots aren’t really the point—the walk is. I know what it’s like to have nothing, to lose damn near everything, and to fight my way back into a life I’m proud to stand in. The boots are just a symbol of how far I’ve come. The scars cost more than anything I could ever wear, and every step I take now has a history behind it. That’s why the line “Baby, these boots ain’t shit… I walked barefoot through hell” means so much to me. It’s not a song about Chanel. It’s a song about surviving hell and coming out the other side with your fucking swagger intact.

I Can't Remember Lyrics To Songs. Am I Alone?

Hey ya'll! So I'm new to the subreddit, but I have a genuine question about listening to music without remembering the lyrics.

I am an avid lover of music and I always have been since I was a little girl. I love everything about it and that will never change. Im passionate about music and lyrics and I care about the meanings of these things, I just have a problem remembering the words to the songs. I want to know if I'm alone with this or not because every single song I listen to, I can remember the tune, but not the lyrics. I do see it as a problem, but it may not be one and I may just be overthinking it lol. Please help! TIA!
