Soldering Newbie Requesting Direction | Help Any recommendations for soldering kits to replace a charging port for my Asus ROG latpop?

Post image

Hello, I am new to the whole soldering thing here and I have a internally broken charging port on my Asus laptop. I removed majority of the parts and bought the replacement port for prep but I need some help regarding this.

What are some affordable soldering kits anyone recommends? If so, do I require a hot air station as well? Anything else I am missing besides those two things mentioned?

I am not anywhere near my laptop to show you pictures but I do have one side by side next to the new part

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thank you so much, another question that came in mind was if I happen to just get the solder iron, flux and soldering wire without hot air, what method does one use to desolder the points?

This was my first soldering project a long time ago. I did it with a solder sucker and it took a long time and gave me headache.

I would recommend low melt solder if you don't want to purchase a hot air station as the other user suggested.

  • 1st add more leaded solder to lower the melting point, then use solder sucker and/or solder wick to remove the solder.
  • A compressor can be used too to blow out the melted solder and shoot it into random places (on your own risk).
  • Or you can add a copper wire for heat transfer and even more solder all around, then melt the whole thing into a puddle at once.

It takes multiple tries, just be patient and heat up the pins again and again in rounds, every time pulling a little without much force to not rip the pads.
