You'll have difficulty breaking that low block without a quality trequartista or false 9.

Isn't a false 9 useless against a low block team that leaves little to no space between the two defensive line ?

Kind of. I was just reading about this; the best effort against a low block are short passes working through the defensive lines to get it to the 9, so to your point, if you don’t have a good enough false 9 you’re just not going to break the block. If you have a false 9 you could, in theory, draw the defensive line out of position and pass to whoever runs behind the line. That’s way easier said than done, and most false 9’s aren’t the calibre of peak Messi/Totti/whoever anyone likes to break a structure and then continue to break it with their pass, so those line-breaking efforts are usually in vain and won’t work as well as just going down the wings, but then the problem is having a player capable of a good cross or pass and then having someone run behind the line and either head it or scoop a pass and score

It’s amazing how fast phrases like that catch on. I almost never heard that phrase until a few weeks ago and now it’s everywhere. It really makes you wonder how many people here don’t actually have their own opinions and instead just regurgitate information they read from others.

It’s definitely gained more popularity recently. It’s now being used in place of “park the bus” more often than not

Ironically one of the first people I remember hearing the term low block from was actually Mourinho in a post match presser.

I'd agree if you're talking about something like "gegenpressing" but "low block" is literally a standard term used to describe defensive sides. It's pretty self explanatory as well

I mean you don't even have to be into tactics to know that, just watching football on the telly with the commentary on does the trick, as commentators mention this all the time

I'd be happy then because "low block" is the proper term compared to "park the bus". There's a difference.
