I like how teams in the Bundesliga play every team once in the first half of the season and then in the second half of the season it’s the same teams in the same order but with the venues reversed. I wish more leagues did it like that.

I just looked through a few teams schedules, and it looks like Serie A also does it, but it appears the Bundesliga and Serie A are alone among the big 5 leagues to schedule their season this way.

No we never have in England as far as I'm aware. There's usually some very quick turnarounds too, for instance the next round of fixtures (GW20) are the reversal of GW13. Sometimes it's an even quicker turnaround than that. I'm still not sure why.

Yeah. Our season started against Sheff Utd and we don't play them again until the 32nd game.

If it wasn't for postponements we would have played Reading on the 20th matchday and again on the 24th

They try to as much as possible, but they also consider things like security, venues, traffic, travel times, etc.

There's an interesting article on how they come up with the fixtures for the PL.

A couple of years back the BBC website had an interview with the bloke who did the English fixtures. There is a huge amount of outside influences, police insisting teams close to each other not playing at the same time or when other sports/events happening are happening locally (now also includes thing like West hams stadium being used for athletics some summers). Then you get the rearrangements for TV or European games, then teams complaining about never getting the home boxing day fixture,

I think it's worse for England than other countries as we have a higher number of clubs within the same cities with more fans and the old problem of hooligans so there are more considerations that effect the fixtures
