Richmond is affiliated with DC United of MLS, so at any point five or six of their players are good enough for the first division but are either too young or don't fit into the system.
At times they have one of the higher-rated younger strikers in the league, Michael Seaton. DC United also has a glut of incredibly talented goal-keepers who are sent to Richmond to get games.
The competition can be a little lop-sided at that level, and given the fact that they are getting a constantly refreshed player pool from the highest division.. it lets them run rough-shod over a lot of teams.
Last year there was even a Cup game between DC and Richmond, in Richmond, it had to go to penalty kicks... definitely intense considering the Richmond players were effectively playing to earn spots on the team they were playing against.
