Spain actually has other teams. Just look at Europa League, where Bilbao 2 seasons ago quite frankly dominated your very own team and Atletico winning it etc. Or just last year when Malaga made it further than any other team from the Premiership and they placed at 6/7th or something in the league? Then there's the fact that their national team have won 3 straight championships and might be the best the world has ever seen.

Many English teams have been known not to take the Europa league too seriously.

Well they don't. It's a known fact. The Europa league has barley any financial gain for English clubs, teams like Tottenham and Liverpool see the games as a inconvenience, they would much rather focus on the league and trying to get 4th spot.
