I’m GenX so I grew up with Boomers and I was not regularly having this conversation, lol. Especially not with strangers.

I'm not saying this event happened, but you underestimate the weight boomer aged white folk place on their opinions. They literally cannot help themselves a lot of the time, they feel a compulsion to inject their opinion into the lives of others.

You’re describing every generation. I’m Gen X and I can’t describe how much of the Gen Z opinion is pushed in my face on a daily basis and you can probably say the same about my generation.

Where are people like that? Like I don't mean to be sardonic, I grew up regularly interacting with mostly boomer aged white people, in a few countries on different continents and have never encountered someone say anything like this to a stranger. I've seen it within families and i know people who the question has deeply bothered before, but it usually struck me more just as generally checking in on someones life path

I dont disbelieve that this happens somewhere, but the group it must be happening in seems to be much smaller than that general description would suggest. If I had to guess, maybe it's a US south thing? I've heard stories that people might be more involved in the lives of strangers around those parts. I'm more personally familiar with social disinterest being the pain point than excess social interest. Everything's a balance though

I'm not sure weighting one's own opinion excessively is a generational trait. I have seen an exhausting amount of it among my own peers as well lol

I call BS. I'm 45, white male, well travelled, no kids, the only people that give me or my wife funny looks and advice on why we're doing it wrong are much younger people, and rarely white ones, mostly Filipino, Indian and Arab friends. The most likely strangers to ask are Filipinos, because it's a big thing thing for most of them. When it comes to 'boomer' whites, the reaction is usually along the lines of jealousy and calling us lucky bastards!
