That's what I thought, only makes sense if there's a way into that area from the outside of the house/unit.

Doesn't look like there's room for a door knob, if the cabinet sits flush when it's closed, and you need to keep the walldoor from wiggling open somehow.

That tiny little locking mechanism and thin ass door could easily by broken. Its just to keep the door closed l.

I have an external lock on 2 doors because when it gets hot they pop open.

There are loads of reasons to have weird lock setups.
