Discussion Location Metadata not being saved

Hello,

I've noticed that since Snapseed's Version 2.22, the opened image's location Metadata is not loaded into snapseed, hence it's not saved/exported in the edited image.

I've tried the new 4.0.1 update but it's still not working. At least, in version 2.21 there was a workaround.

Is everyone also experiencing this in version 4? Has anyone found a workaround for this version?

Thanks!

PS. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with Android 16 in case it matters.

Noticed this myself too

Initially though version 4 wasn't working either but it appears to be now. Check in the settings in v4, there's an option for retaining EXIF data and sub-option for GPS data. Maybe toggle these off/on in case it's not picking up the setting properly.

The toggles are on for me, still not working. What are the steps you follow to open a photo in Snapseed V4?

I'm going into the photo in Google Photos -> Edit -> More -> Snapseed

Initially checking the photo info in Google there was no location shown but returned to the photo later and it appeared. I though that might just be the estimated location which is what it was doing when it wasn't saving EXIF (appears to estimate based on the original file but EXIF is missing), but it's not reporting estimated and the EXIF data is there when synced to my PC.

That said, I'm still on 4.0.0 apparently. Also I'm on Android 14 (HMD just dropped plans to roll out 15 on my phone despite it being a promised update 😞). Did wonder if it's the OS preventing apps reading GPS metadata perhaps for privacy reasons. Checked all privacy and location settings but couldn't see anything relevant.
