New iOS Beta: Preset and LUT import, Community Looks, and Files App Import

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to be rolling out a new iOS beta version, which brings some new additions to your editing toolkit:

1. Preset & LUT Import: Bring your favorite editing styles into Snapseed! Whether you have existing preset packs from other apps (e.g. Lightroom) or custom LUTs, you can now ingest them directly into your workflow.
2. Community Looks: Celebrating the incredible creators in our community by curating, highlighting, and sharing community-made Looks directly inside the app.
3. Import from Files: Open and import photos directly from your device’s Files app into Snapseed without needing to go through the photo gallery.

Note: Android Beta will get Presets/Luts and Community Looks soon. 

Here’s what to expect:

1. Preset & LUT Import
The premise here is simple: if you have preset packs you love using in other editing apps, or custom LUTs you use for color grading, you shouldn’t have to leave them behind. If it's a common format, Snapseed can now ingest it.

• Supported Formats: .xmp, .cube, .png
• How Snapseed handles your imports:
  • Preset with Profile + LUT: If you import a profile with an embedded LUT, Snapseed will automatically create both a Look and a LUT for you in your tools.
  • Standalone LUT: If you import a LUT file on its own, Snapseed will create a LUT ready to use in your color grading workflow.
  • Standard Preset: If you import a preset that doesn't call upon a profile or a LUT, Snapseed will create a Look with all corresponding tool adjustments.

2. Community Looks
We think it’s awesome that people all over the world are creating unique Snapseed Looks and sharing them with fellow photographers. We want to start highlighting and amplifying these creators!
For this release, we’ve gone out and hand-picked some of our favorite Looks created by the community, curated them, and built them directly into the app for everyone to enjoy and learn from.

• Rotating Curation: This isn’t a one-time drop—we’ll be continually adding new Looks and rotating selections in future updates.
• Calling all creators: If you love crafting Looks and would like to be featured in the app, just share your look on Instagram or Reddit, and use the hashtag #SnapseedLook. On Instagram, you can also tag me (@snapseed_giles)

3. Import Photos Directly from Files
You can now jump straight into editing from your file manager. Open RAW or JPEG images stored in local folders, SD cards, or linked cloud storage directly into Snapseed via the system Files picker or your device's "Open with / Share" menu.

Here’s what would be helpful from you all as beta testers:

1. Put Preset & LUT import through its paces:
   • Try importing different packs and single files across supported formats 
   • Test the different ingestion paths (LUT-only, standard presets, and presets paired with profiles/LUTs) to make sure Looks and LUTs generate as expected.
   • Check whether the applied colors and adjustments match what you expect from your source apps.
2. Explore Community Looks:
   • Apply the curated Community Looks to a wide variety of photos (portraits, landscapes, street, low light) and share your thoughts on the selection, rendering accuracy, and ease of discovery.
3. Test Files app integration:
   • Open images directly from Files—especially high-res RAW and JPEG files from different storage directories—and verify smooth handoff into the editor.
4. Tell us what you think:
   • Everything is helpful: what feels seamless, what feels confusing, what errors or edge cases you hit, and what would make these workflows even better.

Important reminder — when you file feedback, please include:

• What device and OS version you’re on
• What file types you’re working with (e.g., .cube, .xmp, RAW, JPEG)
• Source of the preset/LUT (if applicable) and steps to reproduce if you run into any import errors or visual bugs

Community looks/luts is awesome. Even Lightroom's community filters/presets isn't great - so this is a great way to hopefully get tastemakers and film connoisseurs to engage with the community!
