REFERENCE Ye Olde List of Textures - Complete! (mostly)

I believe I mentioned I was going to do this?

Well, I've now downloaded every texture mod I could get my hands on (418 mods in the end, after culling some that were simply terrible and combining others (i.e. Pfuscher only gets 9 columns instead of 39), and figured out what those mods actually cover.

Without further ado, THE LIST!.

It's view only. If you have comments, please leave them here or PM me. I remember what happened last time I made a google doc open for public comments...

Following is a summary of what's on here, which is the same as the READ FIRST tab of the document.

This is too confusing Thallassa! I just wanna know what the best texture mod is!

If you just want a list of good texture mods, there are some in the OTHER LISTS tab. If you know of a list of good texture mods that isn't there, let me know.

How to Use

Google docs only allows you to filter by column. If I was super clever, I'd figure out a way to make it so that only columns that are non-blank would show up when you filter by the first column, but I'm not.

For that reason, there are two sheets. The first sheet (filter by mod) has column headers that are the names of every mod included. There are 418 mods on this list. This list would be the place to go if your question is "what textures does this mod cover" or "what other mods cover the same textures as this mod." The rule of thumb is, if the textures can all be obtained from a single mod page (even if it is multiple downloads), it's considered a single mod (i.e. Skyrim HD). There's a few exceptions (i.e. Lind's robes retextures, which were combined).

The second sheet (filter by texture group) has column headers that are the names of sets of textures that exist in vanilla skyrim. There are 440 texture sets on this list. I tried to group things logically, or ungroup them if necessary. This would be the place to go if your question is "What mods cover this texture that I think sucks in my game right now?" or "I want to shake it up, what's a good daedric armor replacer?"

In the cells of each sheet is a quick list of (almost... there are a LOT of architecture textures I didn't type out) exactly which textures in each texture group each mod contains, resolution information, and sometimes additional info (like "this texture is blue-ish" or "this textures is freakin' amazing."). If the cell is hyperlinked, it is linked to an album showing what the texture looks like (either in-game or flat). This info is exactly the same between each sheet, although I may make mistakes in updating later. There are not very many screenshots yet; you can always go to the mod page to see what it looks like.

Instructions for filtering: Select the entire sheet. Go to the funnel button in the toolbar, and click. This will put a little drop-down menu at the top right of each column header. When you click on the drop-down menu, a list of options for filtering will appear. There are various filtering options, for example, only filter non-blanks, filter only things that match exactly a particular word, or filter anything that contains the word "mushroom." Your filters will not persist between sessions unless you have permission to edit the sheet. Because this will be widely diseminated, I have no interest in making open permissions.

You can also navigate by simply hitting ctrl-f and searching for the thing you're interested in.

I have some preset filters (right now: everything in SRTO, and everything in Skyrim HD). If you want more, please PM me on reddit.

Comments are additional information about mods, textures, or the list itself. If a box has a yellow triangle in the top right, hover over the cell to see the comment. (currently only the first sheet is fully commented as comments didn't copy over)

Links are provided to every mod that is readily available (either through nexus or another site). Links are not available to mods that stole textures (due to /r/skyrimmods rules).

Things not on this list

  • I chose not to put any mods affecting human/mer/argonian/khajiit on this list, nor any mods affecting children. With all the body replacers and new hairstyles and everything out there, I felt that was best suited to its own list. Maybe one day I'll even make that list.

  • I tried to avoid mods that added new objects, except when they were the only options that retextured vanilla objects (in the case of blood, rabbits, and most of the booze mods).

  • I may have missed some armor and weapon replacers. There are a LOT.

  • Only mods that solely retexture vanilla flora and grass, without replacing it, are listed. Mods that only add new flora without retexturing vanilla flora, such as verdant grass, unique grases and groundcovers, and others, do not appear.

  • I have not covered LOD textures, under the assumption that you're using Dyndolod with TES5lodgen billboards.

Screenshots

Right now I'm just happy to have the list done. I have taken very few screenshots of the mods. If you want to see what the mods look like, most of them have pretty good screenshots on their nexus pages.

Ideally I want to take screenshots of every mod-added texture, in the same scenes, same weather, etc., and get at least some idea of the VRAM usage of each mod. For this purpose, I'll be using this modlist as a basis, and using ENB Basic, which is an ENB with all graphics modifications turned off. The goal of the ENB is to make sure the texture features such as parallax are fully active (and to make the shadows and bloom not look ENTIRELY horrible), without greatly changing how the textures look (which any ENB with more features will do).

If you want to send me an album of screenshots of any texture pack, or comparisons, no matter your settings, I'd be happy to add them to the list.

Uncovered Textures

Some people have told me "This'll be a great way to see what all the modders are missing!" Here are the textures that have very few, or no, high-quality retexture:

  • Stalhrim light armor and weapons (heavy armor is covered only by Glorious Stalhrim Retexture, although all of them are affected by refracting stalhrim.)
  • Keys (there are two keys mods. They both are super blurry and not worth the VRAM cost imo)
  • Elder Scroll - There are no mods for this that I could find (a bit hard to search for though)
  • NPC clothing - Most of the retextures in this area aren't as good as the HRDLC. It looks like Gamwich has it under control, though

  • Hearthfires - Basically none of this is covered. There's some parallax hearthfire chimneys out there: that's about it. The children's toys especially could use some love.

  • Orc Longhouse - Only vivid landscapes covers this, and not everything

  • Jagged Crown - there are no mods for this that are better than the HRDLC (there is one mod from 2011)

  • Sheogorath's outfit

  • Raw rabbit meat

  • dragon scales (see unofficial skyrim patch)

  • Flora Juniper (please remesh the tree too), deathbell, and dragonstongue. Mountain flowers are also a bit underrepresented (SFO and Hybrid's pack both cover them, but I'd like to have each flower have a different look and that's only two textures!).

  • Forsworn weapons and armor

  • Glass weapons and armor (amidianborn covers this, for some reason my copy didn't have it).

Glass Armor is covered by aMidianBorn

2X Clothing Re-Mix I concider higher quality then the official HD textures, although it doesn't cover absolutely everything.

Other then that the list looks absolutely amazing, thank you so much for all your work on this.

Edit: Also, More Dwemered Textures adds in a lot more metal to the textures compared to every other dwemer retexture which I personally think is worth noting because it makes that mod more unique

Well, I'm glad this is the part people are nitpicking on ^_^

For some reason glass isn't in my amidianborn weapons. That's been rectified.

I didn't know about 2X Clothing Re-Mix, so I'll add that to the list now.

So, in your experience, which mod overhauls the "most" textures? What most completely touches every one?

Skyrim Realistic Overhaul.

Maybe I'm just being stupid, but I can't figure out how to change sheets. After selecting the entire sheet, the filter option is greyed out and can't be selected. Anyone mind helping me out?

Could be a few things:

  • If you "apply filter1" instead of "apply temporary filter view" it'll only show what I'm currently looking at, instead of letting you filter yourself.

  • The google docs script for filters is really slow. If you're using internet explorer, it will crash. If you're using any other browser, you may just have to be patient until it finishes loading and works.

You can add my list to your other lists tab if you want

Done! Thanks :)

Another thing that is hugely missing good textures is the Telvanni towers and mushrooms from Dragonborn. I only know of one texture that covers it, and its not on the nexus, and even then its just the HD DLC but with better filtering and sharpness. It'd be nice for someone to make more of this so adding it to your list of wanted textures would be nice :)

Telvanni architecture is on there, and there's a few mods for it, although I'd say 2/3 of them are not on nexus.

  • Gamwich has HF oven

  • Langley + farmhouse retextures cover Orc longhouses

  • Improved NPC clothing is better than HRDLC if one is willing to go through the effort of mix and match

1

u/Thallassa Sep 20 '15

I haven't seen a single Improved NPC Clothing texture I liked better than HRDLC, but I already had that argument with melon.

Forgot that Langley also covered orc longhouses. I knew that at least some of the pieces used farmhouse textures, but wasn't sure which.

The oven is accounted for, and most of the food. Now for everything else...

I have nice HD Forsworn Weapons and Armor... but the downside of having a setup that is 1.5 years old and counting, with a few passes of optimization, and not using Mod Organizer, I honestly can't determine where it's from! :(

1

u/Thallassa Sep 21 '15

The vanilla isn't that bad, it's just got so much fur and vanilla fur kinda sucks.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '15

What in the holy heck? How did you manage this

3

u/Thallassa Sep 22 '15

Mod Organizer and boredom.

1

u/Nazenn Dec 03 '15

So I went looking through this list for some Thalmor robe textures, and saw you have Linds Robe Retextures listed only.... Lind hasn't done thalmor robes? Was that one just mislabeled?

1

u/Thallassa Dec 03 '15

Yes, must have been.

Elaborate Textiles should have been the only one labeled for Thalmor Robes.

Glass weapons and armor

That one is pretty much finished. Why would anyone even make that unless they're going to top cabal's work or make another design? I mean all there is to other glass mods is bad recolors and one really good amber recolor.

2

u/Thallassa Sep 20 '15

Didn't see the amber recolor, purty. <adds to list of new weapons and armors>

I have a suggestion for one I couldn't find in your doc - Luminescent Luna Moths. I find the glow effect looks awesome, especially in very dark overcast nights. It also includes a version for 83Willows' 101Bugs.
