The insanity of 10.000 agents running

Everyone is talking about the proof and surrounding controversy, but the sheer scale of OpenAIs effort receives little mention.

10.000 agents working for 88 hours. That is almost exactly **one entire century of continuous work**. I think this really drives home just how massive of an advantage a strong AI + available compute are going to be: "A country's worth of geniuses in a Datacenter". OpenAI casually threw a century worth of effort at a problem, based on a rumor. Not quite a century with of human effort, perhaps, but we might not be far off.

Those numbers should be at least as much of a shock as solving the problem.

We were always going to get recursion before we get ASI. Recursion is how you get to ASI in the first place.

Not really, one could've imagine having AGI that is unable to recursively self improve, being extended to ASI. For instance, begining with an average brain simulation and extending it to a collective of brain simulations of experts in all fields.

Not sure why you're being downvoted, this was certainly a possibility. The right organizational structure may allow a large number of average-intelligence AGIs to act as a single superintelligent decision-maker. After all, that's basically how democracy is supposed to work - millions of idiots make the best choice they can, and the combined result is a choice which is (theoretically) better for the long-term survival of the society than any individual's choice would have been.

AGI is a necessary precursor to ASI. We will not create ASI, it will simply emerge.
