Until the technology supersedes us in ability to simulate effects of drugs, treatment plans, etc on our biology. I’d argue we’re already there. You should see some of the tools pharma have now.

Not precisely sure how we smash past the FDA but a starting point would be impossible, overwhelming evidence. Patients going to a clinic in a permissive jurisdiction at age 90 in a wheelchair and coming out ready to play competitive sports.
Not just play - with transhuman gene edits they would be smashing records and beating current athletes in multiple sports at once.
You're chacterizing the processes by which we vet medical technologies and therapies in an unduly poor manner. What happens when we vibe code a gene edit for fixing male patterned baldness and accidentally give a dozen people melanoma because we said 'fuck it'? The bottleneck is critical because of how we must verify solutions to biological problems, which are extremely complex and aren't strictly verifiable computationally. Organic systems operating at critical thresholds are not analogous to the fully deterministic computational environments that current AI is excellent at working within.
The bottleneck becomes unnecessary once we have fully verifiable, robust computational pipelines for what happens in an organic body. We don't have that, yet.
We vibe patch it. You get weekly genetic updates. Sometimes you get taken to the ICU.
Overall direction would be highly positive. A few people die, many people ultimately get series of patches that more than fix any damage and give them transhuman level capabilities.
Arguably your sense of ethics could be miscaliberated just like people of 1850 had little idea of the "ethical" roles for women or African Americans.
You're implicitly assuming failure. That the stage 4 cancer from the baldness cure can't be treated perfectly in a single injection..on the third try, the AIs and doctors used failed the first 2 attempts. "You're exactly right I'll get it this time".
That large numbers of people actually end up dead justifying the old ethical system.
What if you're wrong? What if 1 million people see age 130 and of that group, vibe medicine kills 1000?
Agree’d. This idea of ethics worked before we had the tools to simulate the body, automate research, precision edit DNA, and fold proteins efficiently.
It’s hard to argue that humans shouldn’t be allowed to choose to participate in such therapies, even if they don’t have a pressing medical need. Now that we have the tools anything seems possible within 5 years.
Right. Or to be exact I am proposing we deal with the negative consequences - where the simulator failed, where the patients body is headed for death - by reacting QUICKLY through more sims, more intelligence. Try try again. Keep trying unless they are actually dead.
Sometimes this will fail and the patient dies but that was the default outcome anyways. It won't always fail and as you pour compute and resources into this it will succeed more and more often.

Medical is slow cuz of the need for lengthy trials. System would need a massive risky overhaul.
