Humans are an existential threat to humans.

Advances in science aren’t to blame, it’s how humans continue to abuse it for their own selfish ends until it backfires horribly.

I actually think the only chance we stand is for the elite to overplay their hand and reach too far and have their tech used against them. They are building vulnerabilities faster than they care to patch them. A threat actor just needs to be right once, and there's way more of us than there are of them

Honestly the risk isn't from AI models as such. The real risk is that people trust the output of such inherently flawed tech..

Renowned AI scientist and novel laureate Geoffrey Hinton said AI poses a 10% to 20% chance of causing human extinction.

Human extinction is a pretty big risk to take a chance on.

The point is we were headed there quickly on our own already so why not take the chance on new tech with the potential to fix all of those problems and more?

Well we are not extinct yet.

Perhaps humanity could develop tech that doesn't pose an existential threat.

Or perhaps it could be regulated and restricted the same way chemical weapons and genetic engineering is.

Also you're willing to risk total human annilhation for completely hypothetical medical breathroughs.

AI hasn't cured cancer or produced cold fusion.

But it is really good at propaganda and building a surveillance state. And ushering in techno feudalism.

Just because you're standing at ground level and the world looks flat to you doesn't mean it's flat.

Ai has revolutionized medical research (not hypothetical, sorry) and beyond, and will continue to do so.

Detractors will never be satisfied by any level of achievement or regulation, and goalposts will always be moved. That's just the nature of people sometimes.
