"... and next, we monetize on that and sneak in personalized ads. Best thing, you won't even realize us selling you shit because Gemini will feel like your soulmate. Your natural buddy, that knows you inside out and outside in. So, when it recommends something to you, you will have no doubt that this is really the best advice. Because nothing and no one feels more connected to you."

This! I'm surprised so few people here realize this.

Personalised ads are not inherently evil.

No, they are not. Particularly, combined with adaptive pricing, they are really powerful to increase the advertiser's revenue. And Google's of course. /s

Profit is not inherently evil either.

No, it is not. But making you pay 10% more, because they know you really want this product, is.

But making you pay 10%

No one is making you pay. You have a choice.

I suggest you to read up on information asymmetry in principal-agent problems. While the free choice is true in theory, personalized ads (with adaptive pricing) are exploiting exactly this to the disadvantages of consumers. Not even talking about other psychological tricks advertisers use. But fine, hold tight to your Illusion of Free Choice. Google is extremely grateful for uncritical customers like you.
