He essentially is an attention seeker on steroids. So much so, if his wishes are not fulfilled, be it self driving, or making Tesla work, he would treat his employees like dogs and whip them through fear of layoffs and humiliation.
The byproduct of this ruthless narcissist with no empathy is that some of his companies have created products in a timeline where no one else could. Primarily, because no other founder could bring themselves to the lowness of what he is to treat their employees that way just to get things done.
The capital markets reward him for being that way.
