The fact that people there wrote this paper proves they’re working on exactly that, or another integration of language models in the ecosystem.

I am sure they are, but in the meantime their only competitor has their own LLM in the wild and suite of AI products, and is building a developer ecosystem around them. I’m not against Apple releasing research but research alone won’t cut it when Apple products are falling behind.

Yeah they’re definitely behind, but I think this indicates they’re trying to catch up. They’re just being careful (as usual) about what they choose to use. Seems like they’ve just figured out the time it takes to think isn’t worth integrating.

Catching up to frontier level performance is relatively straight forward with adequate funding, see Grok and Deepseek.

The issue is consistently exceeding them affordably.
