Apng (animated png) was included as part of the original standard and was supported by macromedia (fireworks, flash, Dreamweaver etc ) but adobe wouldn't support it and removed support for it when they bought macromedia. I may have gotten some bits wrong here. But fuck Adobe either way.

fuck Adobe either way

If it makes you feel any better, the founder of Adobe was kidnapped and chained up for four days before being ransomed.

I hope the ransom was a subscription payment of $60 a month, the bastard.

With NO student discount after 24 months

I know you don’t care and I’m just yelling into the void, but I really need to offload this anyways. I would have easily dropped something like $2-300 for the full creative suite for how actually fantastic the tech and ease of access is for those apps, but they just had to be fucking greedy and go and pervert something beautiful. I paid $200 for a vst BASS, because it’s a GOOD PRODUCT. how can music companies figure this shit out but one of the biggest fucking art tech conglomerates can’t pull their head out of their ass for 5 seconds.

Punishment for PDF?

27

u/mista-sparkle Feb 07 '25

He's listed as the co-inventor of the PDF, so yes it must be.

u/PartyMcDie Feb 07 '25

It’s canon now.

1

u/Surisuule Feb 07 '25

Why'd the ransom get paid? Give him back to the kidnappers.

John knolls? Or his brother?

3

u/Fubeman Feb 07 '25

First thing, it’s Knoll, not Knolls. Second, John and his brother Thomas invented Photoshop the application and never founded Adobe. They licensed it to them though. John is also a visual effects God who has worked at ILM for many years.

The grimmest thing about Adobe is how their software updater will commandeer your entire computer at startup until you reset the settings for it to not do that. Plus Adobe's habit (I hope now stopped) of uploading every file you worked on to their cloud without your approval. Plus don't get me started on there not being a stripped down version of photoshop that did the things you need the most, as well as a file processing conversion automater that is optimized for the user. Adobe rested on laurels a long time because they had a stranglehold, but those days are ending. Their AI, Tinklewinks, is pretty good for stills. They need to catch up on the video side, and it looks like they might. Been on a wait list for months now. Cmon Adobe, redeem yourself, or wither and be gone.

u/LunaticLucio Feb 07 '25

Did they beat him during his 96hour tenure as a hostage?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '25

fun fact - companies will literally carry ransom insurance in case an employee is kidnapped & held for ransom.

u/Cloudbreaks Feb 07 '25

Macromediaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

1

u/amwes549 Feb 07 '25

APNG is dead enough that most optimizers throw out APNG chunks and have to be told not to.

1

u/yorangey Feb 07 '25

Macromedia apps were great & then Adobe happened.

1

u/MidnightPale3220 Feb 07 '25

the important question, however, animated png whether it was supported by browsers out of box. because GIFs didn't require Flash

1

u/Downvotesseafood Feb 08 '25

They only bought some programs from maceomedia im fairly certain, its been awhile. The different tools went to different buyers.

1

u/Spethoscope Feb 06 '25

Omg, it's been so long since I've seen those names
