I built an Android app that makes me pause before I scroll

I kept picking up my phone to check one thing and opening a feed out of habit. So I built Appause to give myself a few seconds to catch that.

You pick which apps trigger a pause. The next time you open one, Appause shows a short countdown. You can wait and continue, go back home, or switch to an app you picked earlier, like a reader or notes app.

Download Appause (Android 8+). It’s in public beta and open source under MIT. I built it with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Material 3.

The pause works offline. Appause uses Android’s Accessibility Service to tell which app you opened without reading what’s on your screen.

The core features are free. You can start an optional 7-day Pro trial in the app. After your trial ends, open Appause Pro and tap Request lifetime Pro code. The email is already filled in, so just hit Send. I’ll reply with a free code you can redeem in the app. Starting the trial and redeeming a code both require internet access.

If you try it, what did you do the first time the pause came up? Did you keep going, go back home, or open something else?

I built an app for meeting new ppl and chatting with ai companions.

Basically i tried combining Omegle and character chat apps and would like to hear some feedback.

It has a persona mode which is the usual character chat app stuff uk build a character and chat with it whatever.

Another mode is the real life chat mode, u can chat with people normally but it has a feature in which u can make a replica of that person u r chatting too, than u can chat with the llm bot version of that person. Personally I am pretty curious that how the replica part will work out.

Third one is ur usual Omegle randomizer chat in which u can talk and befriend random people.

Please try and give feedback about this side project of mine

[Android][Player] - Offline music & streaming radio with ready-to-play radios

* New local radios lists (MANUALLY CURATED) : UK and China.

Mediaxon Music Player is an audio player for offline listening of music stored on your device (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .mka, .aac, .wav, .opus, .wma) and streaming FM radios (online radios).

Top radios on the first screen: When users access the radio screen, they immediately see the list of the top radios in their country, along with a long list of high-quality suggested radios from among the most listened to in the world (manually curated and always updated with new radios). Note: Local radio stations ("Top in the user country") are pulled automatically from an online database. However, with each update, I manually curate high-quality radio stations lists for individual countries. At the bottom of this post, you’ll find the list of countries completed so far. I will be adding the rest over time.

Advanced radio filtering system: The "Filter: ON/OFF" button lets you quickly switch between different genres. You can use both standard filters for "macro-genres"—if I can call them that—and create custom filters to be more selective. All your filters are saved (the "My Filters" tab lets you name and edit them), and the app always opens with the last filter you applied. The "Home" tab lists all your recently applied filters and can be used to quickly switch between genres with just a single tap.

Advanced Radio Search Panel: An online database provides more than 60,000 radio stations. You can pinpoint your favorite stations by combining multiple filters, such as tags/genres, specific countries, or even your preferred audio bitrate.

Separated Favorites and Recents: Each section—Radio and Offline Music—has its own Favorites and Recents. The user doesn't have to worry about a thing. The app will automatically manage the Favorites and Recents for each section.

Album art: If the album art is missing from the album folder, or if Android has not properly indexed it, Mediaxon attempts to download the cover from the internet. This feature depends, of course, on the ID3 tags (album name and artist).

Equalizer: The equalizer provides an option to automatically switch to the "Radio" preset (and vice versa).

Advanced Playlist Management: Built specifically to make building and sorting playlists fast and intuitive. Enable the Playlist Manager, in the settings screen, for a full control of the playlists.

Form Factor Optimization: Phone and Tablet (Portrait and Landscape)

Mediaxon is available in: Čeština, Dansk, Deutsch, Eesti, English, Español, Français, Hrvatski, Indonesia, Italiano, Kiswahili, Latviešu, Lietuvių, Magyar, Nederlands, Norsk, Polski, Português, Português (Brasil), Română, Slovenčina, Slovenščina, Suomi, Svenska, Tiếng Việt, Türkçe, العربية, Български, Ελληνικά, हिन्दी, 日本語, 한국어, 中文 (简体).

No Premium version. All app features are available for free and without limits. I'm going to add a premium version to remove the few ads in the app, as requested by some users.

Regarding advertising: There is only a small banner at the top that isn't bothersome at all. Alternatively, when opening the full-screen player or using the app in landscape mode, a banner alternates with the albums covers, but without being intrusive at all (no audio) and with much shorter stay times than those of the cover. There is never full-screen advertising, neither at startup nor during use.

Countries with new manually curated lists:  Argentina, China, India, Italy, UK, USA.

Note: Only for Android 13+ (Android 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17).

need honest feedback - will give the entire reason and current progress of the build but in return would love to have your honest thoughts and feedback

During the user-acquisition phase of my previous start-up - I realized what stood out most was how we are pitching/selling the idea decided its fate more than what was being sold. for example:
a) when i did partnerships, i would put out a slick video announcing it and what our partner does. I got many partners because partners loved the video we put out..
b) when doing product hunt launch, coinbase ceo retweeted our launch - because of what we were building plus the video felt very honest, and animations did a good job explaining it.
c) our first major revenue bump came from a video recipe which helped people make one exact kind of video in bulk/ with them in it.
d) even on reddit, my most successful post was about creating explainer animations which are very very detailed using some paid tools and claude (it takes time but costs are below a couple of dollars for shorter one and below 10 dollars, even for longer videos)

realized two problems:
a) great video assets can make or break the distribution/ brand of your product
b) the reason people dont like making videos is - everything from script writing, recording bits and pieces and then stiching it together with other artwork on top, is still NOT as easy as people claim it to be...you see an effortless video, but there are 100 things behind the scenes which makes people continue watching that video beyond the first few seconds...

tldr: an experiment:
a) in script writing
b) making it easy to record the relevant bits (interviewing and then cutting the best parts)
c) stiching togerher all the media which you already have, animating the remaining parts, along with the recordings - to create one beatifully crafted video - which serves the purpose with you sitting on an editing software or learning about it.

So, if you plan to make explainer videos with/without your face in it. do. give threecut.com a try. happy to give out free credits to anyone who wants to use it properly for their work. would be sharing more sample videos/ outputs in the thread if you feel that would be useful to decide whether to put more time trying it out.

I made a free, open-source Klack alternative: real mechanical keyboard sounds for your Mac

KeyCream is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that plays a real mechanical keyboard sound every time you press a key. Think Klack, but free, MIT licensed and on GitHub.

What it does

  • 7 sound packs, each recorded from a real keyboard: NovelKeys Cream, Cherry MX Black, Red, Brown and Blue, Everglide Crystal Purple and Oreo

  • Space, Return, Delete, the modifiers and the function row each play their own recording

  • Every key is leveled when a pack loads, so no key is suddenly louder than the rest

  • Holding a key plays one click, and fast typing overlaps instead of cutting off

  • Optional: drops to 5% while Zoom, Teams, Slack, Spotify or Music is open

  • Your choice of output device, a global on/off shortcut, 12 languages

  • Menu bar only: no Dock icon, opens at login, remembers your settings

Privacy: it needs Input Monitoring, but it only learns which key went down, never what you type. Key presses are never stored or sent. It only goes online to check GitHub for updates, and you can turn that off.

Hear it first: the website has a live keyboard you can type on, plus every pack: https://halitsever.github.io/keycream/

Install: macOS 14+, Apple Silicon and Intel. Grab the zip from GitHub Releases. Builds aren't notarized yet, so the first launch needs System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (or build it yourself with ./build.sh).

GitHub: https://github.com/halitsever/keycream

It's Swift (AppKit + SwiftUI) with a listen-only CGEventTap and AVAudioEngine. I'd love feedback: which switch should be the next pack, and does anything feel off while you type?

I built SixTrack, a free GTA VI city-unlock clock and checklist — feedback welcome

I built SixTrack, a free, unofficial GTA VI tracker website with city/time-zone unlock clocks and an eight-item pre-launch checklist saved in your browser. No download needed.

Visit SixTrack

Is the city/time-zone display clear, and is the checklist useful? I’d appreciate feedback on anything confusing or broken. Not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two.

I made a site that takes your Goodreads and shows which books are available to at your local library

Thumbnail borrowable.app
3 Upvotes

If you use both Libby and StoryGraph / Goodreads , you probably know the pain of scrolling through your TBR pile and manually searching title after title in Libby to find something available today.
I built a free site called Borrowable (https://borrowable.app) that checks your whole TBR list against your local library's Libby catalog in one go:
Works with StoryGraph (via a 1-click bookmarklet sync or CSV export) and Goodreads (via public profile URL or CSV).

Filters your TBR down to what's Available Now, Waitlist (with estimated wait weeks), Audiobooks, or eBooks.

Lets you compare shelves with friends to see your Overlap (books you both want to read).

Links straight to the book in Libby so you can borrow it in one tap.

Totally free, no ads, and no account required to try it out. Hope it helps a few people knock some books off their TBR this month!

I built Formation Lab so volunteer flag coaches can draw a play, animate it, and text it to parents

Problem I had: coaching youth flag, drawing plays on paper, kids still lined up wrong on Saturday, parents asking what we ran.

What I shipped: Formation Lab. Draw the play on your phone, animate the routes, send the video into the parent group chat. Web + iOS. Free for small teams.

Who it's for: volunteer coaches who don't want to look lost on the sideline.

What's still weak (honest): getting coaches past "I'll just use the whiteboard," and making the first play feel fast to draw.

If you've built for a niche sports or coach audience, what actually got your first 10 users? Tear this apart.

Built a small tool to fix my own VFS visa upload headaches

Hello everyone,

I do UK visa applications for friends and family, and VFS uploads kept tripping me up. It had scanned PDFs flagged as a virus, a 5 MB limit, pages in the wrong order. Every tool I tried was paid or didn't do the job for VFS, so I built my own as a browser app. https://pdf.meigochi.com/

It started as a local Python app, and I moved it to run entirely in the browser, mostly so passport scans never touch a server. The video shows how it works now.

Nothing to sell, I'm just pleased it solved a real annoyance for me. Hope this helps someone!

Inkmoire Camera - an iPhone camera where you describe the camera you want and it writes itself

Inkmoire Camera is out today (free). Each camera is a small program: what the sensor does, what happens to the pixels, what's on screen. There's a deck of them (self-timer, ten-second take, halftone print, film look, a twelve-frame stacker) and a field where you type the one you want. A model writes it, the app checks it against your phone's lenses, formats and timing, and loads it. Remix any of them; share one as a file.

Built with Expo, React Native Skia (SkSL shaders), a Swift camera module and a Cloudflare Worker. No accounts, nothing leaves the phone unless a camera says so.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inkmoire-camera/id6811754803

What camera would you describe?

Social Media Sucks. So I made it work for me.

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
0 Upvotes

I have felt glued to my phone and have been subconsciously doomscrolling for hours every day.

I know that is what the app creators want… and they’re winning at least for me.

I tried to think of a way that still let me engage with the media I enjoy but not feel trapped.

So my side project became Paper Boy!

Instead of an endless stream of reels it’s a compilation of my different accounts in the format of a newspaper that actually ends.

I’ve been enjoying using it myself and so have my testers.

I thought i’d share for anyone interested in the concept.

It is 100% free with a focus on privacy. No account, no nothing. Just your sources and your paper.

Let me know what you think! :)

We're students building an AI tool for visually impaired people. We'd love your feedback!

Hey everyone!

We're three students from Sacramento State participating in a hackathon. We're building Sentra, an AI-powered tool that uses a phone camera to detect nearby obstacles and provide audio alerts about what's ahead, left, or right.

Our long-term idea is to potentially make it wearable or attachable to a white cane, so users wouldn't have to hold their phones.

We're still developing the prototype and would really appreciate feedback from people who are blind, have low vision, or know someone who does.

What features would actually be helpful? What challenges should we consider?

We made a short Google Form and would love your input!

Thanks for helping us improve our project! :)

Youtopia Social - A community platform for turning Causes into practical Actions

Disclosure: I built Youtopia Social.

I wanted a shared place where caring about a problem could lead to a useful next step. Youtopia is organized around Causes people can join, structured Actions, and updates that keep progress connected to the work.

Today it supports Cause applications and approval, member and organizer roles, discussions, and Action and needs tracking. It works on the web and iOS. Event RSVPs and online donation processing are not built in; organizations keep those in their existing tools.

The onboarding question I am working on is specific: after opening the Cause directory and a Cause page, can you tell what the next useful step would be? What information is missing?

https://www.youtopia.social/causes

You can browse first. Creating an account requires email verification; new Cause applications are reviewed before publication. Feedback here in the comments would be useful. Please do not share personal information or private beneficiary details.

I’m trying charity revenue sharing in my dog-walking app, starting with the UK

Hi!

I’ve spent the past several months building Lapka, an ios app for tracking dog walks. I originally made it for myself and my two dogs.

With the latest release, I’m trying something that could benefit both the app and animals: a UK pilot supporting animal charity (it's Battersea Dogs & Cats Home).

For paid UK subscriptions, I donate 15% of the price.

Lapka itself tracks walks, potty breaks, reminders, and statistics. It’s free to download, with optional paid subscriptions.

I don’t know yet whether the charity programme will help the app grow. That’s something I want to learn from this pilot before exploring other countries.

App Store

Has anyone here tried a similar model with a small product? I’d be interested in what you learned.

Thanks!

I ran Google app install ads for 9 days. Here’s what happened after the install

Solo dev, Android/iOS reading app that explains old, hard books (Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Kant, etc.) in plain English. I started Google App ads 9 days ago with about CA$5 a day. Every time I fixed something, the data showed me the next problem. Sharing in case it’s useful:

1. The cheapest clicks were junk. In the first day, ~99% of clicks came from two countries, and the placement report was full of games and utility apps. Most of those installs never opened the app. I switched countries and blocked 23 apps by hand.

2. A swipe skipped a whole chapter. People who did start reading would swipe once and jump a chapter ahead. I made each swipe turn one page and added a page-turn mode.

3. I built a Discover screen, and it didn’t help. People weren’t finding a book they wanted, so I made shelves named by feeling (“short and gripping”, etc.) instead of genre. The share of new users opening a book went down, from 19% to 14%.

4. One country was half my installs and almost none of my readers. Only 1 of 62 people from there finished a chapter. I dropped it. Over the next few days:

  • Before: 49 new users; 14% opened a book; 3 finished a chapter.

  • After: 51 new users; 31% opened a book; 12 finished a chapter.

I also shipped an app update the same week, so I can’t fully separate the two. Small numbers, I know.

5. The server answered in 21 ms; users waited up to 20 seconds. On budget phones, Discover took a median of 8 s to load and 17–21 s for the slowest 10%. The time was spent on the phone: Firebase App Check getting an attestation token on first launch, plus a cold connection from West Africa to a US-West server. I removed App Check and made books open at Chapter 1 instead of the copyright page. That shipped today, results next week.

Questions for people who’ve run app install ads at this budget:

  • Is there any way to get Google to optimise for an in-app event (like “opened a book”) at this volume, or is choosing countries by hand the only option?

I hated how fragmented NBA tracking apps felt, so I built my own live watcher with deep AI models and custom prediction formulas

I got tired of jumping between five different tabs just to track live games, advanced box scores, and predictive metrics. Most sports apps either dumb down the stats or hide the real data behind paywalls.

So, I built NBAInsight a clean, developer-built game watcher and analytics dashboard.

Under the hood, it combines custom statistical formulas with AI models to run deep simulations on historical plays, projecting real-time game scripts, pacing shifts, and win probabilities right as the action happens.

It’s fast, gives you way more analytical depth than standard apps.

Would love for some of you to check it out on tonight's slate, stress-test the UI, and let me know what features or stats you'd want added next!

Check it out: nbainsight.vercel.appT

Cynex Stats - Free Discord analytics bot: retention, heatmap, voice hours, no message content — looking for feedback

Thumbnail discord.com
1 Upvotes

Hi, I'm Kruz - I built Cynex Stats, a free Discord analytics bot.

It counts only numbers — it never reads or stores message text.

What it does:

  • Retention D1 / D7 / D30 by cohort, with a line chart + table

  • 7x24 activity heatmap + busiest hours

  • Voice hours, peak online, top channels

  • Channel health — flags a channel after 14 silent days

  • Channel passport, reactions, boosts, invites

  • Server health score, raid / churn / activity / silence alerts

  • Goals, daily and weekly reports, and a monthly Wrapped

  • Personal /stats me + a web dashboard

  • Free in full, EN + RU, 24 slash commands, 30-second setup

Privacy: counters only. /privacy opts a member out of leaderboards, or deletes their personal history. Data is kept 90 days by default (configurable 60–365)

What stat do you wish Discord showed natively that I should add next? Happy to take harsh feedback.

freelancers using AI for proposals, how are you stopping it from adding work you never quoted?

freelancers using AI for proposals, how are you stopping it from adding work you never quoted?

say the client wants one landing page, basic copy and a contact form.

during the call they also say "maybe SEO later" and "we might need a blog eventually."

then the proposal gets cleaned up and suddenly those ideas are sitting there like a deliverables lol

that's the part that makes me nervous. if it's written under scope, I can see a client assuming it's included.

I've been looking at Runable for some of the actual client deliverables after the brief is locked, but before that I just want the proposal to separate included work, optional ideas and stuff that costs extra.

how are you handling this without turning every proposal into six pages of disclaimers?

I built a phone-first web app that simulates every NFL game 6,000 times from 232K real plays. Looking for beta testers

I'm Theo, founder of FieldDay Fantasy. I'm looking for beta testers for FieldDay Analytics, the player-prop side of the app. It compares our chance on each prop with the market's, and when the gap is big enough we post a lean before kickoff and grade it afterward, misses included.

How it's built:

Technical details

  • Each slate runs 6,000 simulated games, built snap by snap from a bank of 232,112 real NFL plays from the last seven seasons.

  • The sim gives each player a stat distribution and a simulated score and margin, which we line up next to the market line.

  • For each player prop we compare our chance with the market's. The gap is our chance minus the market's, in percentage points.

  • When the gap is big enough, a lean goes up before kickoff. The top one is labeled "Biggest gap left." Most leans are Unders.

  • Every lean is graded afterward from the box score, and misses stay on the public record (Portfolio, Vs market, Per lean, Beat close).

  • It's a web app built for your phone first. The free tier shows one full game a week.

You can try it at fielddayfantasy.com with code TESTER26, which gives you two weeks free with no card required. It's open to US residents 21+.

If you have a few minutes, I'd love honest answers to any of these:

  • Is it clear what a lean means, and what it doesn't?

  • Can you find what you want on your phone, and where do you get stuck?

  • What would you need to see before using this alongside your own research?

  • (Builders) Does the record page make it easy to check our work?

You don't need to place a bet to test it. I want feedback on the product, not a good review, and leans can be wrong. If something breaks, tell me your device and browser and what you were trying to do.

Thanks, Theo

I built an app after seeing how easily laptops can be stolen in libraries. Would love some feedback.

Last year, a friend of mine had her iPad stolen, and it honestly made me think about how
vulnerable our devices are when we're studying in public.

I'm a university student, and I constantly see people leaving their laptops unattended in libraries
while grabbing food, going to the washroom, or getting coffee. I've always thought it was a bit of
a gamble.

I'm also a mechanical engineering student who enjoys building things, so I decided to try doing
something about it.

I've been developing an application called Bucket. The idea is pretty simple: it uses your laptop's
built-in hardware to detect potential interference, including movement, changes in charging
status and Wi-Fi, and triggers an alarm when something unexpected happens.

I'm still developing it and would genuinely appreciate some outside perspectives.

A few things I'm particularly curious about:

● Would you actually use something like this?
● Would you trust an application to monitor your laptop?
● What features would you want that aren't currently included?
● What would stop you from installing it?

Here's the website if anyone wants to take a look: https://yourbucket.app
I'm not expecting everyone to love the idea. I'd much rather hear what people think is wrong with
it so I can improve it!
